vlandys has done more in his time than everyone else since 1995

there isn’t a single thing he said he would do that he hasn’t delivered on
1 expansion team in SEQ is exactly what David Gallop achieved in his time.

I guess you could argue the Sydney stadium stuff has not gone quite to plan, let's hope its still a work in progress.

Haha, fcked up the Sydney stadium deal, fcked up the player negotiations, fcked up the 5 year tv deal, slashed grassroots funding, took nswrl to court, twice!, and lost both cases. Shall I go on?
But hey we own two hotel and are off to Vegas lol

brisbane2 was a no brainer, safest option and, arguably, was the wrong club admitted decision anyway.

As far as expansion goes he has achieved the same as David gallop so far, very little.

I know, that was literally my point.

There's no way you can plan that far ahead and expect everything to line up neatly either. Unforeseen circumstances would impact your timeline almost straight away.
Things change. You can't predict the future but you still plan ahead. If the NRL doesn't have a clear 20 year mission plan then they're idiots and anyone who argues against having one is an idiot too.

Those aren't safe assumptions to make. It's just as possible that RL could suffer a collapse similar RU's within the next 20 years...
And you could slip on a bar of soap tomorrow. You still make business plans. The population projections are from the ABS. If the Storm aren't selling out MRS in a city of 7 million then they're incompetent.

The NRL simply isn't a national economy...

No matter how big the NRL's salary cap gets it'll always be difficult and expensive to convince the global RU talent worth having to jump codes.
Sink source dynamics of positive feedback loop capital attraction work at both a micro and macro economic level. The bigger the salary cap and average salary, the more incentive there is for players to switch codes. I hate to break it to you but it's already happening. More and more high school union players in Oceania are picking the NRL over Super Rugby as their professional target because they can make more money there. Rugby union are now having to pay overs to get back talent they originally developed that they could have retained in their own systems if they had been more competitive in market place in the first place. If you don't understand this as a business dynamic then we'll best leave it at that.

yeah exactly, why have virtually no players from the Hunters advanced to the NRL? (Other than Olam)
Olam only advanced coz he was at the SC falcons when picked up by storm, as for coates he was born in PNG, and grew up in gold coast, and poached to play for broncos, we were talking about PNG players overall, not specifically who identify as both aussie and png... again its a pathways problem not a talent problem

Coates is PNG by heritage only, he spent his entire life in Australia. He is 100% an Australian RL product.

There has nothing stopping NRL teams recruiting PNG talent for the last couple of decades, and certainly nothing now. Adding an NRL team doesn't suddenly change that.

Currently (thats not to say its not fixable), PNG has a talent problem at the moment. The ARLC should look to invest more in there junior development and pathways.

But given its a third world country, funding for things like clean water, schooling, electricity and food is probably a bit more of a priority.
How old is he, 22? 100% hey?, the man was born in png, then lived in cairns, grew up in gold coast, played for broncos, then bought by storm, 90% maybe but not 100%... either way not the point,
point is if you are already in Australia and have access to an NRL club you can go far, if you don't then you remain where you are... thats literally a pathways issue

And youre right there is nothing stopping NRL clubs from recruiting from PNG, but its easier not to get kids from a foreign country and set them up in your backyard, than it is to just recruit from your local backyard, NRL clubs are lazy, well most are, they'd rather buy a player who has shown a glimpse of form somewhere in the league, than import a no name png player, that could be rocks or diamonds.

Australia has been throwing money at PNG for decades, water, food, electricity all that hasn't changed, whats the circuit breaker? Not saying RL will solve the unfixable issue, but how do you change the society wavelength, theyll never be a priority bigger than clean water, schooling, hospitals etc

So with elite coaching, pathways as part of the Australian competition and an nrl side together with unlimited govt money from two governments, a nation of 17 million where rugby league is the dominant sport won’t be producing juniors by the buckload ?

please make it make sense

7. Newcastle Knights
8. Parramatta Eels
9. Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

(Now here's where it gets interesting)

17. Brisbane Tigers (disband Wests Tigers merger, Balmain board team up with Easts Tigers NRL bid and grant them use of Tigers name/ colours. Team plays 80% of their home games at Suncorp with remaining 20% at Leichhardt).

PRO's: Balmain brand maintains NRL presence, additional Brisbane team brings more fans to NRL in SEQ/ Brisbane area and further cements RL as the #1 code in SEQ over football and Aussie Rules

18. Western Sydney Magpies (Western Suburbs revert to playing out of Campbelltown full-time, focusing on junior pathways and development in the booming S-W Sydney area)

PRO's: Wests set themselves up to become a strong club off AND on the field for decades, RL strengthens itself in participation and support vs football in key growth area of S-W Sydney

19. Central Coast Bears (Play 80% of games at Gosford, remaining 20% at NSO).

PRO'S: Bears brand returns to NRL, RL establishes a stronger presence both in terms of support and junior numbers in one of the last Rugby strongholds in Sydney (the North Shore), achieves likewise on the Central Coast which has the biggest junior league area not represented by an NRL side in Australia, and faces a threat from football with a successful national side playing out of Gosford for nearly 20 years now. Not everything is about TV ratings and dots on a map, the NRL can't afford to neglect this area)

20. Perth

PRO'S: New time slot for NRL fixtures which is appealing for match scheduling and advertising, RL establishes a stronger presence in an Aussie Rules state with a reasonable sized expat Rugby fanbase to draw support and juniors from)

21. PNG Hunters (Based in Cairns)

PRO's: Develops more pathways for PNG players to play at NRL level, strengthens league even further in a RL mad nation and improves the quality of the competition as a whole at club and international level

22. NZ 2 (Wellington)

PRO's: Creates new national rivalry with the Warriors, further challenges Rugby as the #1 code in NZ from a support and player level, in turn strengthening the Kiwi's at international level

23. West Brisbane/ Ipswich

PRO's: Further strengthens RL in SEQ region at a junior and support level

No thanks, we don't want the sloppy seconds of a NSW club, let alone having to share it with Sydney
