Doesn't sound like they will get crowds to a regular club games.
Suppose it depends who they'll be playing against, in the end it doesn't matter, its not the reason the NRL or Govt are interested or investing money and effort for.. its player pool and the govt agenda of png favouritism... im not backing this bid coz it works on the level that all the other bids used to for the viability sake or the bums on seats aspect that most expansion teams are seling themselves as, this is something they both want, so that they can expand even quicker into other markets, its the nessesary step, once itsdone and paid for, the pathways stay forever even if the 1st grade team does not.. and then we'll see real growth into places like Perth and Adelaide

Its funny how you think that a nothing rep game against the cook islands is somehow the "barometer" for a NRL club crowd, you're sounding awfully like the perf mob, in just dismissing the bid, over what people wouldn't even turn upto that game if was held in sydney, or brisbane... let alone png..
The big takeaway from crowds in png, is that they aren't there to see their team as much as they prefer to see the celebrities from the NRL, if you remember the aus PM13 game like a month prior, that seem to fill out, just to clear their hunters barely get crowds too.. not sure that the bid is heavily dependent on whether there's a full house at santos stadium
So how will they get crowds regularly especially against the Wests Tigers or the Dragons.
If Rugby League is their supposed religion and don’t say that was a nothing game, that was their national team playing, where was the crowd ?, or do they only rock up when the Kangaroos are playing because we have no proof to say otherwise ?.

Mate look at the evidence, all the crowd figures of the past, they don't care about their own hunters, or rep sides, they care about the best teams running around the top league, the broncos, the kangaroos, the storm. people say its a religion yes, but they aint caring about deadshit clubs like the tigers, they read everything on NRL just like we do, its their EPL or NBA.. theyll turn up for Chicago bulls, or Manchester utd
Crowds are irrelevant for bid, its not like they'll be making money en masse if they sold out every week anyways

They sold out that stadium against Wales, Ireland and the USA in 2017

Next 2 teams in are Perth and NZ 2.
We don't know what order.

PNG is completely out of the question for many obvious reasons but the fact they couldn't sell out a small stadium With cheap tickets to see thier national team ( the best the have both home and abroad with some being NRL level) busts the 1 thing they supposedly had going for them .

Team 18 Perth, 19 NZ 2
Or team 18 NZ 2, 19 Perth.

Team 20 is an open race:
Nz3
Adelaide
Central qld
Brisbane
Sunshine Coast
Central Coast

My personal preference would be Adelaide.
This order :
2026 nz 2 out of Christchurch
Perth and Adelaide same year 2030

As for PNG, the most logical thing to do is hold annual fixtures there.
Origin period stands out for these fixtures where under strength teams playing an out of town team.
That's where it starts for PNG!
50 bucks Australian and they were all sold to scalpers

Where are you getting this information from? And on what basis? Seems like something you pulled out of your arse.

Any EPL or NBA club touring the world gets big crowds, so your analogy is shitful.

Its also odd you mentioned the Bulls and Utd, two teams who haven't been remotely successful for 2 decades and a decade respectively.

If there is going to be big crowds in Port Moresby, then whats the point of the team playing games there? And whats the point of the team?

I used those two teams as examples as famous brands in sport, and yes the analogy works because THEY regard the NRL as the top tier competition in rugby league, as do other sport lovers regard the EPL or NBA the top tier in their respective leagues.. most would think the hunters are the A-league in comparison... if crowds was an metric the arlc cared about redcliffe wouldn't be playing at kayo stadium, nor sharks at theirs, PNG or Pasifika has alway been a bid they've wanted to get player pathways formed and also the govt funding it, is a massive bonus to not have to worry about 1/18th of the broadcaster money, which they most likely use to purchase more assets or handout to the other 17 clubs.. dont be a dunce, if you think this team is on a level playing field with any other bid, think again, greed from the clubs, greed by the game, and boosting the player pool is all they all care about in regards to expansion, unless every bid agrees to refuse any broadcaster money to run its 1st grade side, this bid wins purely on its decade of govt funding... not coz of crowd size

Smacks of f1 races in Middle East. Really dumb idea and lacking fans but hey it brings in the $$’s. The only reason nrl is considering PNG is because they think they can make an easy buck out of it. Vlandys world.

This is double bullshit, it would be a cost neutral at best, a loss maker more likely

So lets see how our bids are shapping up

- Western Brisbane - no actual bid and no stadium
- Brisbane Easts - they will consume the Broncos soon
- PNG - cant handle more than a one of game
- Perth - too costly
- NZ2 - no money in NZ

Thats leaves the only logical choice

CC Bears

"CC Bears" already 10 teams within 100km... the positive is that whoever the AFL CEO is will die of laughter that Central Coast is the only place NRL can expand to.

The only thing PNG had going for it was crowds. If that's not a guarantee then it's got nothing.
Well Port Moresby is hosting three more games, Fiji v Cook Islands this weekend, PNG v Fiji next weekend and then the Final.
Let’s hope that the locals have saved their pennies.
Atleast Fiji have a few popular players taking the field, unfortunately Kikau and the Saifiti brothers were not available. Sivo will be playing.

Let’s say a png can side could in theory generate half the FC revenue of a normal nrl club. Nrl grant is $17mill. IF the govt is fronting up $25mill a year Id suggest the nrl could pocket $1-2mill and the club would still be able to operate.

Bloke in a bar podcast Gus sees 20 teams and conferences

says the game is on the verge of greatness
Did he have anything to back this up or just his guess lol

the twenty teams thing is hardly a long term nrl strategy they’ve been working in for years, it was a Politis suggestion in a chaors meeting at begin of this year, to which we got the usual nrl reply of “worth considering”.
We have had zero official comment from any arlc or nrl official that they are doing anything about going to twenty teams.

We would all be laughing our arses off at any other code that is claiming to expand this rapidly.
To be fair it’s only media and some on here claiming it is a done deal. Nrl has been very silent on it. Given the games history on expansion I’d be amazed if we have twenty clubs by 2033.
