The most powerful sporting administrator in the country

the guy that has the pm of australia inviting him to the White House so america can support our png bid ?

rugby league doesn’t need mates rates deals and it still wins

that’s what makes it more satisfying

yes they borrowed for covid they haven’t even paid back those debts yet
Yep the guy that gave ch9 an extension for no extra cost, the guy that gave fox an extension at virtually no cost so they didn’t catch a cold, the guy that didnt wait and go to competitive tender when There was clearly a number of buyers in the market. Yep that’d be the same guy!

So if the PNG bid is $60mill pa, funded by the govt, why wouldn't the game take the free hit there and go straight to 19 teams?
I doubt they care about the player pool being thin.

We don’t know what they will do … we haven’t got much officially to go on …particularly around how the Govt money will be allocated…

I would be surprised if this is the amount handed over to the NRL

It will be hilarious viewing senate estimates.

"2 million for Dencorub?"

"50k to pay off a dead hookers pimp??"

It's what would be needed though to give it any chance.

They need to be able to build up to standing on their own. Simply handing the money over does nothing, That goes for no matter who comes in.

A rich oil tycoon could come in and prop up any bid, without the right pathways then it is useless.

So for me it isn't about the money as such but what improvements are being made

Even the only article that claimed $600M back tracked and said that's not what a future NRL team would get.

It's a gross overestimate.

I mean over half a bill in govt funding going to the NRL directly or indirectly would be headline news for week's.

Ownership is the big thing. Will it be owned by the Feds? The NRL? No one running the club will have their skin in the joint. They'll just be spending some else's money with no repercussions.

It’s like the bid for png being prepared by Andrew hill is being totally ignored and the same dumb questions get repeated over and over

100 million made the storm a pretty decent rugby league team in an area which pretty much dislikes or is indifferent to league and has no juniors to speak off

600 million in an area with 17 million people who love rugby league and whose kids dream of being rugby league stars. Yeh that’s going to be a powerhouse

Asking questions is what you should do rather than just accept things because you mightn’t like the answer.

The fact that you keep comparing an affluent city like Melbourne with that of a third world country like PNG (talk about repetition) suggests you don’t understand the problems.

This might work (anything is possible I guess) but this risk is multitudes more than putting a side in Melbourne. Not even in the same postcode.

A while ago he thought perth wouldn't work because of Melbourne. Now he thinks PNG WILL work because of Melbourne. The dickheads forget what they say.

Melbourne at one stage we’re losing 5 million pa

guess they must’ve been in the less affluent part of Melbourne

100 milllion against nine afl clubs or 600 million vs nobody

it’s funny how desperate this forum is to praise Melbourne then see risk in png

png will end up being a more sustainable club than the storm

clubs without their own juniors are going to struggle

Penrith are the benchmark now

We shouldn’t go to certain places because they are a risk (they like fumbleball) but we should definitely go to an impoverished dangerous country like PNG because it is a safe bet.

Seriously, it is like some people don’t understand basic economics. Or they have never travelled anywhere.

If you think PNG will be a more sustainable club than anywhere in Australia then I can’t help you and we should cease the conversation. It’s dependant on the government funding it.

It’s literally crazy talk and anybody arguing it just doesn’t understand economics.
