The poor TV ratings in Perth for the Eagles and Dockers is a real concern. Everyone knows fumbleball is the biggest game in Perth by a country mile. If the mighty Eagles can only generate 70-98k viewers then the Pirates will struggle to get 15-20k. Meanwhile, we've got the Broncos getting 170k, Cowboys and Titans getting 130k and Dolphins getting 126k in Brisbane.

Perth Red will tell us to ignore this very important metric, despite ranting last year that the game needs teams in Adelaide and Perth to boost the broadcast rights.
The fact many on this forum see a Perth nrl as a saviour for the game is hilarious

just what we need another club in afl land with no juniors and value for tv

yeah but a Perth team will still generate decent ratings in Brisbane and much better ratings in Perth than a non-Perth team. Perth will also bring new eyeballs to the game. Brisbane Tigers are not bringing any new eyeballs to the game.
Do you have any evidence to support your claim?

I've seen the ratings. Non-Queensland teams generated 98k viewers in Brisbane. Dolphins generated 126k. Cowboys and Titans generated 131k. Broncos generated 170k.

In Brisbane, the Broncos average 170,000, the Dolphins average 126,000. Other Queensland regional teams average 131,000 on Nine, while matches involving no Queensland sides average 98,000.

Eagles generated 74k in Perth last year. Dockers were watched by 69k. Games not involving Eagles and Dockers generated just 45k.

In Perth, West Coast matches averaged 74,000 – down 22% – while Fremantle games fared worse – down 28% YoY and averaged 69,000. The Western Derby rated 155,000 and 154,000. Games involving neither Perth side averaged 45,000.

Earlier you said people are biased and only see what they want to see. You're guilty of doing exactly that in this post.

The NRL knows it is very risky, Not sure they allow a government to own any side.

Maybe PNGRL? I still think this was just an off season article put out there
Your probably right. The only 2 parties willing to fund it won't want to be the owners. Says it all doesn't it.

It's odd that a guy pushing 50, like you, would talk about his post grad degree in order to push his credentials on the internet.

Wouldn't you say, I've worked in finance for 20 years etc?
Pushing 50? Surely he's 12 or 13. No ways he's an adult

The Eagles had there worst season on record, and one of the worst of all time for all Australian sports (they lost one game by 250 points) Of course there ratings were down.

But that very article shows that on a typical year Perth is the biggest TV market besides Melbourne for their code.

And what about Pay TV?

You didn't just cherry pick a tiny data set, and ignore any extenuating circumstances, just to reinforce your extreme bias?

Surely not.
Same old shit. The AFL is too popular in Perth for NRL to have a team. Now the ratings for AFL in Perth are small so the NRL can't have a team.
It's nuts

Do you even know what you’re arguing? Honest question.

Sigh.

I'm arguing that fumbleball is far stronger in Queensland than rugby league is in Western Australia. The dumb nutcase from Perth that I was responding to was saying fumbleball isn't very strong in Queensland.

You "Liked" momgoose's stupid post about TV RATINGS, despite everything he said being wrong.

For the record, I don't believe they are the front runner

BUT if on the odd chance they are, there is no way they only have government funding. Especially only locked in for 10 years.

There has to be more to the bid

I hope we do go to PNG eventually. This should be the start of investment there to make it happen in about a decade

Thanks for successfully arguing for the NRL to have a presence in WA to increase its exposure and TV ratings, like the AFL has done on QLD

you just said non QLD team's average 98k in Brisbane, that's only 28k less than the Dolphins. So Perth would have to make up 28k ratings on 9....not out of the question. Of course this isn't taking into account Kayo/fox ratings...

but if we were just interested in getting more ratings in existing markets, why not just bring back the North Sydney bears? they would rate like crazy in Sydney, more than any QLD team.

The irony is Adelaide (77k) generated better ratings than Perth (56k) for AwFuL.

For RL, Perth (8k) was just ahead of Adelaide (7k).

The people on here championing Perth are full of shit. They use match attendances for the Eagles, Dockers, Wildcats and Scorchers to argue that the Pirates will boost the broadcast rights (WTF?), despite the fact Western Australia doesn't generate good TV ratings. They ignore the fact the Wildcats and Scorchers are well supported because they're as successful as the Storm. The likelihood of the Pirates being dominant like the Storm, Scorchers and Wildcats over 20 years is close to zero per cent. The other point they ignore is the Scorchers and Wildcats aren't competing against the Eagles and Dockers. The Glory and Force are better indicators of what the Pirates can expect to achieve.

That is why in other threads I am not totally against the idea.

I can certainly see merit in what PNG govt in particular are trying. I just want to know what is the plan for 10-15 years

divided by 10 million people, that equals out to about another $60 per person lol
Hahhaa what a weak argument

it’s not being divided by the png population

it’s focussed on the png nrl team and developing rugby league in schools and similar

if the nrl added easts tigers over Perth they would add more value to the comp on every metric

crowds tv ratings membership juniors finances etc
