How many Polynesians do you see in afl? You know one of the biggest demographic in Sydney juniors

afl just steals the stick insects who would’ve jumped in a lineout in union

league is a power game with explosive impact

afl is for marathon runners

You are an expert on a wide range of subjects …

don’t you get tired of the AFL merkins expanding into the Northern States and the NRL just defending all the time?

Got to do something positive in respect of expansion into their territory… although it PNG is team 18 and not team 19 then Perth looks 10 years away

AFL into RL states is a myth.

You aren't going to see many 112kg guys kicking a ball over running it

The reverse it why RL has struggled to get Victorians into NRL level.

Except Tony Lockett, Buddy Franklin, Wayne Carey, Jason Dunstall,,,…four of the few AFL players I could name,,,

There are 6.5m Victorians …. Bigger population than NZ

There's no reason to support a Perth-based team. I honestly believe the game will benefit more from expanding in Brisbane, New Zealand, PNG and Fiji. The South Pacific has the potential to become a rugby league heartland.

Samoa vs Tonga could become as big across the Polynesian diaspora as Origin is in Australia. PNG vs Fiji has potential to be big. Kangaroos vs Kiwis has the potential to be big. Perth cannot compete with that.
Why arent you a dolphins fan?

Population isn't the issue. It is the changing demographics.

Sydney for example

St George Area was a RL strong hold up until even the 90's, Is now becoming more Chinese background.

Western Sydney particularly Parramatta is South Asian. indians/Pakistanis etc

I live in Penrith we have had similar here. The majority of the 1m extra people will migrate from similar countries.

These countries haven't pushed towards either Rugby code or AFL in the past.

I haven't looked but Melbourne would be changing similarly,

That is why the South Pacific goal from NRL and smart and why going to a new market is better long term. Even if short term isn't the best return.

Or we follow Shane Richardson's ramblings and Brisbane Easts are next in to combat the myth that AFL is taking over the Northern States

And back we go to AFL. In reality all major sports have teams in Perth, it's not copying AFL, it's just sensible expansion.

I think East 1st then go West.

Of those sides though

Basketball is the only one I'd say is financial although the owner is in some debt problems.

The others have strong local bases to build from

RL is more reliant on Pathways then the others, that is the issue for any of the options to be fair

The problem with pathways that we invest in two states.

And if you look at virtually most of the rugby league players coming through in both VIC and WA they are mostly all polynesian, especially VIC, are there any polynesian AFL players ?, serious question because I can’t recall any.
I watched the recent CAS titles where VIC 20 defeated a weakened WA team 16, VIC were dominated by polynesians in their squad.
WA have dominated the CAS titles since its inception.
VIC have won it three times, twice now in the last five years.

Israel Folau had to lose a lot of weight to play afl

it’s just a waste of their natural strength and power to starve them to become afl players

it’s why western Sydney giants is the worst expansion team in any football code in Australia ever

When I went over to WA recently I watched a local game between Fremantle and South Perth just to see the standard of their rugby league competition.
Both teams were stacked with polynesians and the crowd to.
Two weeks ago Perth held a Harmony Cup Tournament, massive weekend.
League is actually growing over there.
League will take off way faster in Perth than it has in Melbourne if they get a NRL team and they will certainly attract players over there, they just need to understand what kind of players to target because of its distance away from the East Coast.
