There’s quotes from fox and nein about what they want which people like you ignore
there are various quotes and polls backing every bid though. Wasn't Adbo strongly for NZ2 a few years ago?
I'll admit PNG seems to be the front runner for team 18 at the moment but Brisbane 3, Perth and NZ 2 all seem to have an equal chance. There is no definitive data or quotes out there suggesting one is preferred over the others...

My argument is if a broadcaster wants something then doing it helps the value of the tv deal

lol

Dave smith showed what happens when you take on foxtel

it was a disaster

It was a disaster because we caved and bowed to pressure. We ended up getting a worse deal after they sacked him.

That’s more of an example supporting my argument than yours. We became lackeys again and we got shafted as a result.

That’s not answering the question. Why would you extend the current deal during a pandemic? Just give them a discount for the remainder of the deal for a couple of years remaining of the deal.

You can twist it as much as you want there’s no pressure to extend the current deal during a pandemic; particularly not for a long time.

Cricket didn't improve much

AFL is $3.8bn in total over 7 years but runs until 2031.

Take the 25-30% off for inflation in that time and you get very close to what NRL got for going early.

So that is a matter of opinion as to whether it was better or not to go early

But without the inflation indexation that's a terrible deal.

Hang on so your argument is that inflation is only working on the fumblers deal and not ours.

I didn’t think you could pick and choose on inflation.

So let me get this straight: your argument is that because Fox has got us by the balls now and in the past we should just let it continue?

You might be right in that’s probably what will happen. And we will get dudded again if that’s the case.

I’m arguing that it shouldn’t happen. We should be definitely getting the same amount from Pay or streaming companies as the fumblers do at a bare minimum (you know considering we rate a lot better than them)

However, if we go in with the attitude that you’re proposing we definitely won’t.
The ARLC is set up in a way that allows the broadcasters to play the clubs against the Chairman and CEO. Every club has a stake at the table. So does the QRL and NSWRL. Ch9 and News Ltd whip the clubs into a frenzy by refusing to negotiate with any Chairman or CEO who doesn't let them dictate terms. It happened with Smith and Greenberg. It's why V'landys pandered to the broadcasters. It kept him his job.

We won't see any real change until the clubs unite behind the Chairman and CEO when the broadcasters make demands. Fat chance of that happening when none of them hold perpetual licences with the ARLC.

At the AwFuL press conference Murdoch said he was going to make fumbleball stronger:

“We’ve always believed this (AFL) is the premium code in Australia – it’s the national game,” Murdoch told reporters on Tuesday.

“We believe in the strength of the game and we will do everything we can to make it stronger.”

Far out I have given you multiple examples of sports that have procured massive increases not because they slavishly followed some dictum by the current broadcasters

You do realise that you’re going to have to take on broadcasters including Foxtel by putting it out to market and introducing the possibility that they might lose it. It’s a risk yes but that’s the only way that you are going to increase the current deal substantially.

Until this code and negotiators actually become assertive then we’ll be sitting here in the future having the same argument we’re having now regardless of what the broadcasters want.
This argument is dumb

just accept bringing in Perth will result in 20 to 49 million pa less than brisbane easts and say it’s a price to pay for longer term expansion

Fumblers got an extra one hundred million pa because they wanted to spite David smith

but colk thinks going against foxtel is a smart move

Has Ch9 or Foxtel said they think there's room for a Perth-based team in the NRL?

It was a disaster because there was no rival bidder for the pay tv rights then we had to go back begging

This is why we are stuck with Friday 6 pm games

Murdoch's comments at the press conference tells us which code he is willing invest in and help grow. I cannot see him investing in NRL teams from Adelaide and Perth. Nor can I see the ARLC investing in teams from Adelaide and Perth.

They were a bluff, to spook the clubs into pissing off David Smith and instilling someone favourable to News.

Vlandys has shown that he is a huge News puppet.
