V'landys didn't do the game aby favours, but what choice did he have?

Greenberg and Smith were ousted by the clubs when the broadcasters chucked a fit.

If we're to believe @mongoose, @The Great Dane and @Perth Red when they say News Ltd will block the Brisbane Tigers then we cannot expect the ARLC to not pander to its broadcast partners.

What are you talking about?

There is no good reason why you would re-negotiate a deal beyond the current expiry.

Who told him to do that during a pandemic and better yet for such an extended period?

Do you think it was a smart idea to negotiate a long term deal during a pandemic? I don’t think many other businesses would be doing that and for good reason.

Cricket waited and they didn't increase at all ( inflation aside) so there is no right or wrong answer here

5-10 years ago, LU hated the influence the broadcasters had on the game. Now some people are actually wanting them to run it.

Not comparable.

The state of Cricket is abysmal, with their pivot to making the Big Bash the focus of the summer nothing short of a disaster.

Unless there is a top tier side touring, Test matches are a dud, and ODIs have faded into obscurity.

That isn't the point. As far as TV is concern they tick almost every box.

2 months of a game on every day. popular for in all cities and plenty of ad space. Not to mention virtually no competition for Dec and some of Jan

That extension covers and Ashes and India tour who rate very well

So @Perth Red lied when he said we need teams in Adelaide and Perth within the next decade or we'll fall behind?

@Perth Red, @mongoose and @The Great Dane have been arguing the same case for years, with no sign of the ARLC ever agreeing with them.

I don’t particularly care about what other people say.

I wouldn’t say it is disadvantageous to have more markets catered for. That’s just basic business - sell your product to as many markets as practically possible

Getting as many bidders as possible is probably more important.

You seem concerned about what other posters think. In any case, most posters are arguing what in their opinion should happen not what will happen (there’s no point in arguing what will or won’t happen in any case)

Also just because somebody in power makes a decision that doesn’t mean that decision is inherently a good one; unless you want to be sycophantic. I’ll give him kudos when he makes a good decision and criticise bad ones.

You sell more of your product to the market that has the highest prices for your goods and services and less to the markets the have a low value on your product or services

It doesn't rate though.

7 flagged they paid to much, and were threatening to pull out for a year or two.

It's in no way comparable to RL.

Colk >> afl got a massive tv deal why can’t we get the same

also colk >> we should ignore what tv companies want and just demand they pay us more money

Bringing up fumbleball again?

If you want to talk about fumbleball fine explain to me how they got a massive increase when they introduced GWS and Gold Coast Suns. That is unless you are inferring that the broadcasters wanted those sides? What about the last one as well unless you want to infer that a potential Tasmanian side is worth $100 odd million a year to broadcasters?

He contradicts himself almost by the hour. He argues that we should do what News wants as they are so wise and know whats best for the game, then spends the next 3 hours complaining about them propping up the Storm for 15 years...

the last tv deal had to be hidden behind contra spending on marvel stadium it was that good

if you are willing to accept less tv money due to Perth coming in instead of Brisbane that’s fine just be consistent

you can’t have both a massive tv deal and adding teams broadcasters don’t want

Smith got booted for leaving News Ltd out in the cold.

Greenberg was booted for not bowing down to Ch9 and News Ltd in 2020.

That’s not answering the question. Why would you extend the current deal during a pandemic? Just give them a discount for the remainder of the deal for a couple of years remaining of the deal.

You can twist it as much as you want there’s no pressure to extend the current deal during a pandemic; particularly not for a long time.

What’s this got to do with anything

you’re turning into Perth red with shifting the goal posts

News Ltd propping up Melbourne with $100m extra funding is proof that News Ltd doesn't think Melbourne is worthwhile in Donkey-land.

There is actually no evidence that the broadcasters want or will pay for another Brisbane team... You and GROTD are running with this but where is the evidence of this? just some vague throwaway comment by the Nine WWOS guy? lol

You contradict yourself every time you say the broadcasters, ARLC and ARU have a secret agreement to not put an NRL team in Perth to give the Force "space", then argue Perth will get one of the next three licences. At one stage you argued Perth was getting the 17th licence.

You also argue that News Ltd don't want the Broncos to have any competition in Brisbane every second post, but ignore the fact they paid $20m per annum for the Dolphins.

The mental gymnastics you perform are hilarious.

If News Ltd are so powerful and don't want a team in Perth because they're giving the Force "space", then why do you keep on arguing for a Perth-based team?

Your posts are the definition of insanity.
