18th club, whose next?

You think ch7 can afford the rights after getting cricket and AFL?

Amazon Prime has yet to show a want in taking on local sports. Particularly one that has a high cost and high rights price.

Channel 10 won't bid alone.

That leaves you with

10/Paramount
Fox/9
Stan/9

As the only options.

10 has Regional FTA issues.

Not sure Stan will go very high when they can partner up with fox and get the best of the NRL and pay $150m as opposed to $700 or so you'd need for it all
Prime bought the rights to Australian swimming. It's not high profile, but it's local.

Those same people also want ch9 to run the game and make all the important decisions.
Strawman.

Not entirely.

Ch10 had the issue with their regional FTA network.

Paramount plus is a dread ful service in the Regions.

They be left expanding to Tas with no guarantee those down there would get a reception

Same issues would be a concern for NRL with regional QLD and most of WA. Should Perth come in.
I cannot see Perth getting in unless NZ doesn't put in a bid.

It is produced externally by Australian Swimming. Literally all Prime are doing is broadcasting the feed.

Similarly to how the ICC tournaments will work.

An NRL round costs around $1m to produce. Likely higher because they can't use the producers/commentators etc in other programming to save costs

Add costs of commentators and other talking heads would be massive

Buying the rights to Thursday night football, premier league games and Ligue 1 in France would suggest they are interested in expensive sports broadcasting.

Except reality is:

EPL is 20 games only. None of which they produce. They merely send the pictures to people.

NFL is only Thursday night. While they do produce the content. They are doing so with a target of 12m people a week.

So again. until they are producing these big events on masse then they aren't going to drop $650m a year on a sport to go to a few million people

..do what nine want in regard to bris3. Doing everything nine want is something else altogether.. But keep misrepresenting what ppl are saying.

Ah they said that we should give the broadcasters everything they want, otherwise they will give bad publicity. Keep trying to backtrack for them, it's not working.

They paid $1bn a year for 1 game a week to drive sign-ups in the US.

They are actively chasing rights to sports around the world to do the same.

I'm not sure why this suddenly turned into whether they would buy the whole round by the way. I was pointing out how this was wrong

They clearly are interested in local sports if they think it will help drive up subscriptions. If they see that benefit in the NRL, they will bid whether it's for 1 game or up to 8.

Actually your donkey account and wb1234 regularly say that ch9 should be given whatever they ask for. That'd mean they run the game.
Strawman.

I say Ch9 will pay more for Brisbane 3 than Perth because the former will allow them to recoup more money through advertising.

@Perth Red misrepresents Ch9's position on the Dolphins. They didn't provide extra revenue because they lost access to four Broncos games and the rights weren't put on the open market. No team comes close to drawing as many viewers on FTA across the country as the Broncos.

If you think a Perth-based team will be as relevant around the country as the Storm then you're deluded.

Not even the West Coast Eagles can compete with the big Melbourne clubs for national relevance. It's foolish to think a Perth-based NRL team will draw anything but low ratings in Brisbane and Sydney. Perth is not Melbourne. The dynamics in SEQ and Sydney in 2023 are different to when the Storm entered in 1998. Perth will be another Titans.

I said the major sports are reluctant to sign with Ch10/Paramount because it has no stake in the print media and struggles to compete with Ch7 and Ch9. Paramount doesn't have a large subscriber base.
AwFuL and Cricket Australia turned down strong bids from Ch10/Paramount.

Didn't NRL knock back an offer from Ch10 when Lachlan Murdoch, James Packer and Gina Rinehart invested in the network?

It’s funny people ignoring quotes from nein and fox about wanting another brisbane team because it doesn’t suit their narrative

It's funny people saying we should give ch9 exactly what they want and then backtracking and pretending that they didn't say that.

Who gives a f**k what nine and fox want, you guys circle jerk over the broadcasters, when its the clubs who retain the only votes that matter, sucking up to broadcasters gets you nowhere, and offending them does to, just better to leak the news on your preferred bid out early and keep talking about that, ala png or dolphins, the media always jumps on board eventually anyways
