Strawman.

I never said anything of the sort. Provide an actual quote to back up your bullshit. You won't be able to do it.

Easy

If Perth cannot financially support an A-League team then it certainly isn't in a position to hold an NRL licence.

If a city being unable to financially support an A League team means it isn't in a position to hold an NRL licence, that rules out Newcastle, Gold Coast, Townsville and Auckland from holding NRL licences.

A League attendance has gone from a League average of 13k around 2014-2015 to 8k in 2023-24. yeah I think they got some problems... The Socceroo's are not what they were in the mid 2000s when we had numerous players in the top Leagues in Europe. Most Socceroo's are in European secondary division teams or smaller Leagues like Scottish PL or Eredivisie (Dutch). Men's soccer has been in decline.
Men's soccer in this country is lightyears ahead of where it was in 97-98. The Socceroos progressed to the knock out round of the World Cup with a team mostly made up of A-League players. In 1997 the Socceroos couldn't beat Iran to qualify for the World Cup.

Are you thick? Do you know the name of the national stadium in Port Moresby, right? Please leave the PNG discussions, you obviously are just trolling to get a rise, one thats proven you to be a complete and utter imbecile

And they already sponsor the national womens team

As for coke a cola theyve been in the png corner since the first bid way back in 2010
And still sponsor school programs now

I'd say they are the equivalent of Cash converters are to the Perth bids

I spoke exclusively about Perth in the statement you quoted.

I never said all markets need to have a stable A-League team to field one in the NRL.

It’s funny how they twist stuff to get a rise

a five year old could work out what you meant
When I made the statement I knew it would trigger a strawman response from Perth Red and Maxipad. I'm not surprised that The Great Dope fell for it.

I was surprised that Colk took the bait.

Sadly, this is what the forum has become. Expansionists twisting people's words around when they're confronted with evidence that contradicts their opinion.

Calling them expansionists is a very loose description of them

being fans of one bid and making every other bid sound like a huge waste of time isn’t really an expansionist

the thing that’s laughable Is png with 600 million behind it blows any bid Perth can make out of the water

It also sums up their hypocrisy. They've argued for years that expansion into Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth will require a top down approach that involves investment from the ARLC at all levels and an NRL team. The funding from the Aus and PNG Gov provides exactly that for rugby league in PNG, yet apparently that's a bad thing.

The Great Dope makes out that it will be easy to find "investors" from Adelaide and they won't need to spend much. He doesn't have a clue.

Correct. See story attached from 2010

Hence why I mentioned those, Santos sponsor Wallabies so do jersey sponsorship. Should they upgrade but even Stadium naming rights value increases with regular NRL there

There are a few other multi nationals. Like Mobil exxon who are in PNG but haven't said eithe

We take the $600m figure with a grain of salt, and most is likely to facilities.

HoweverThe government is already funding the PNG Junior development program to the tune of $5.5m a year.

Andrew Hill in Oct said he was open to taking games where made sense. Combine with the Fijians. Take a game there, get Fiji Airlines ( who are a new sponsor to the game ) onboard too and you are building a decent bid even with the issues PNG has

It just proves your blind hatred as usual. Literally every single thing you claim is a problem for Perth, is also a problem for other teams or other bids, but for some reason you don't believe that they are a problem because then it doesn't suit your argument.

Like this, an A League team going bust is proof that a NRL team would also go bust, but that doesn't apply to any other A League team that has gone bust.
Or travel time is a problem for Perth, but travel time to PNG which is the same or worse for most teams, is not a problem.
Or crowds in 1997 are a problem, but the teams with crowds lower in 1997 don't count.

Try using some consistency for once.

“Some of those other things, corporate support, I giggle, people tell me we won't have money… some of the biggest companies in the world are based in PNG.

“Newmont (mining company) have just taken over an Australian company, it's the world's largest gold mine, they're based in PNG, they're a proud organisation doing business in PNG, they'll be very excited to be partnering with the NRL.
“As will many, many other supporters.”

Which teams do Allianz, Accor, CBA, QLD Country Bank, Suncorp, CBUS sponsor? Nearly every ground has a naming rights sponsor that has nothing else to do with rugby league.

And they already sponsor the national womens team

And how much do they pay for a team that has played a total of 26 matches in its entire history? Throwing a few thousand dollars at a team is a bit different to being a major sponsor of an NRL team.

As for coke a cola theyve been in the png corner since the first bid way back in 2010

I'd say they are the equivalent of Cash converters are to the Perth bids

So they were interested back then, and yet have shown no interest now. Thanks for confirming.
