The Brisbane Tigers Bid Chairman is Shane Edwards you dope!

When the club launchd its intent to bid in May Richardson wasn't at the press conference.

Haha still clutching at those Logan straws. Richardson could see the writing on the wall, desperate grab to try and get the png license then changing brand to be all of queenslands team lol. They know they are many many years from entering, if ever.

I still have hope for a perth nrl team because I believe they have everything needed to be a successful/big club and grow the sport in wa.

But I have been following and supporting the cause since 2006 when I was still in school and learnt about all the setbacks of the super league war, it's just a shame the nrl wasn't in a position for so long to right the wrong of perth losing their team and still not doing anything to help when the game finally financially recovered.

Wait, you weren't alive during the Super League War?

I was alive and actively following rugby league when it happened. I remember reading in The Courier Mail just how hostile the Perth media was towards the Western Reds.

The Reds were bankrupt in 1996 and relied on News Ltd bailing them out. The club's main sponsor was the bloke leading the current bid.

There's no way a Perth-based team will ever be a big club.

Last year the Eagles and Dockers drew an average of just 74k and 69k FTA viewers in Perth. NRL drew 8k FTA viewers. It's not a major market like Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

In May 2023, Brisbane Tigers Bid CEO Shane Edwards told the media the club is willing to wait for the 19th and 20th licence you dickhead.

Richardson wasn't the CEO of the bid.

Newcastle aside all clubs lose around 30-40% of their crowds if they are sht for a few seasons. We’ve got Sydney clubs still struggling to get 12k to games with the advantage of the away club bringing fans.
Auckland have dropped to 11.7k, gold cost to 11k, canberra to 9.6k, nq 14k all In last decade, but apparently this is going to be a unique thing for perth!

Perth can only dream of averaging 14k. They couldn't even get that in their debut season when there was lots of hype surrounding them.

The local media was right behind the reds as the picture shows. There were rumours the local media were hostile to them though, but only the mentally challenged swallowed that up.

The Sunday Times deal was a bailout from News Ltd when the club went bust in 1996 you dumb arse. News Ltd bailed the club out because it needed them for Super League.

After declaring that the club may not have the financial resources to compete in the 1996 ARL Optus Cup, a major sponsorship with the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sunday Times gave the club some much needed money.

Owned since 1955 by News Limited, the newspaper and its website PerthNow, were sold to Seven West Media in 2016.

Yes no shit, needs a club, needs players, needs a licence, but wait so does Adelaide
The only businessman who has been upfront about backing a Perth-based team is Peter Cumins from Cash Converters. He was the main sponsor of the Reds when they fell into financial trouble in 1996. News Ltd bailed them out.
