10k people are going to become a member of a team that doesn't play in their home city?

Imagine thinking that a team should be launched based on target anyway? 10k? f**k me.

Rich people support Rugby Union mate, not a 30 year old defunct RL club.

Manly had 15k members in 2023, and historically it hovered around 12k (this includes all ticketed members, non-ticketed, pet members etc.)

You would have to be hitting the pipe, if you think a club would get more than 25% of this figure playing interstate. 10% would be more realistic.

It isn't what is good for Sydney, Any of the new teams will struggle initally.

linking with a known brand will allow them to sell merchandise and Sydney memberships, The 220k fans was people hitting like on a survey. So that is overblown but 10k is probably a realistic figure, add in the few million $ they have in private sponsorship. That allows time for locals to get on board.

As the Bears old guys die the locals in Perth will fill the void
again thats just a bit of short term icing sugar on top for a perth side. Fanbase and sponsors wont be a problem here. The real value Bears bring a Perth franchise is the pathway system. Thats our weakness and thats what Bears offer. What that is worth to a perth club, and if there are other alternatives with less demands is Im sure what they've been exploring.

I'm not adverse to a Perth Bears club as long as it meets the non negotiables a Perth club should be laying down.
#1 of which is WA ownership.

away support in Sydney is of little value to a Perth club. Bit of merch and some out of state memberships, its not big bikkies in the grand scheme of an NRL clubs revenue.
In fact wouldn't it only line the pockets of other clubs.

Given the famous reluctance of Manly fans to travel, would Bears fans (other than the initial sugar hit of nostalgia)

He acknowledged himself it would be a sugar hit for first few years then wane away. Which is why making the Perth part successful is far far more important than ticking some Sydney nostalgia boxes.

But again if NSFC come to the party and accept these WA non negotiables for a Perth Bears I'd welcome them with open arms and be first in line for a Bears full membership:

10 or 11 home games in Perth
License owned by WA consortium
Club based FT in Perth
1 board seat for NS CEO or Chairman
Brand must include WA references in colours and name

This is the only way the club will feel like a WA club to WA people and not some NS fifo effort that fans are constantly worried about moving back to NSW when the mood takes them.

but but the fig tree lol
Its kind of sad the game continues to cling on to the past like it does. Im all for heritage and history but its a business and needs to move on.

I see even Man Utd have finally accepted Old Trafford needs to be replaced!
Heritage and history in super league

no idea what youre trying to say. Most SL clubs have updated their branding and moved out of old stadiums and into new ones years ago.

Nostalgia is great to reminisce over beer about, but it doesnt pay the bills.

Only because the grounds were condemned after valley parade

One club rebuilt its new ground to same specs as the old.

guess which one ?

most English grounds were only rebuilt for soccer with rugby league as a tenant

playing the hull derby at craven park isn’t good business lmao

regardless of the why, the point is all SL clubs have moved into new stadiums, or are planning to, or have redeveloped. so no heritage and history isnt holding back the game in SL when it comes to stadiums.
The likes of NS and LO have no place in a prof top tier sport in 2024.
Being anchored by the past is only going to hamper your future.

Abdo shakes up executive team as NRL pushes towards a 20-team competition

NRL boss Andrew Abdo has started a major restructure of his executive team to align with the Australian Rugby League Commission’s strategy to grow the game with a focus on the Pacific.

Abdo has been working behind the scenes for the past couple of months on a shake-up designed to complement a strategy that is likely to see the introduction of a new team in the Pacific, with a focus on Papua New Guinea, as well as the growth of the women’s and international game. The NRL also has its sights set on a 20-team competition over the next decade.

Abdo is now in the process of executing a leadership restructure of the organisation as three senior executives depart the building. Staff were informed of the changes on Wednesday morning.
That restructure will include merging two executive general manager roles (fan experience/digital and partnerships).

Abdo has decided to combine the roles previously held by the long-serving executive Jaymes Boland-Rudder and Alexi Baker and will go to market for a new chief revenue officer.
The NRL will also restructure its communication and stakeholder relations portfolios

Executive general manager of media and communications, Grant Williams, will finish up with the NRL after completing a short-term contract.

Williams had always planned to move on from the NRL this year, allowing for a restructure that will see former Australian Financial Reviewcolumnist Misha Zelinsky assume all communication and government relations responsibilities as the executive general manager of corporate affairs

Zelinsky has been working with the NRL to assist with its push into Papua New Guinea as the government pushes for the license of the 18th team to be held in the rugby league-mad nation.

Andrew Every, who was in charge of participation, community and game development, will also finish up at the NRL and will be replaced in the interim by John Wilson.
