All the bears need is a desirable location, that the arlc want... roaming the nsw country side, or pasifika, with upto 4 nso games aren't going to cut it, its going to be a full-time perth/adelaide/vic2 or nz2 to be worthy of the arlc to listen, no point going to qld or another nsw coz there's teams already there in 1st and 2nd grade..
Like i said before they'd be in the comp already of they weren't so stubborn... they've only decided the whole we'll play wherever angle just recently, after realising its probably their last chance to get a licence if they sell their location away, to be honest i was rooting for them a few years ago, now i pity them for being stupid... like who's going to give you guys 4 nso games seriously.... you'd be lucky to get one trial there, especially when moore park is just over the bridge, or the central coast stadium you built is sitting there vacant
They deserted CC pretty quick hey. They'd do it to any area of they had the license.
Do you think if the NRL bring in national reserve grade would would be a need for feeder clubs?

So WA are going to supply Wynnum Manly with NRL quality players ?, from where ?.
WA’s local five team first grade competition ?, just curious because one of my sons mates plays for Wynnum.
Every NRL club has 30 registered players in their tops squad. Up to 12 of those players each week will become available to play in NSW / QLD Cup. Are clubs going to ignore that opportunity? Players that come from the Perth junior rep pathway as they develop equivalent 17s, 19s reps are going to want a NSW / QLD Cup team to head to if they don't make the top 30 squad. On average Perth would have half a dozen kids up root and head over every year to do that anyway at 16-19 without a pathway.

Why would that have anything to do with the local amateur first grade competition?

Perth or Christchurch can get in NRL without the Bears, Bears cant get in NRL without them. They are not in the position to be dictating anything.
Yeah thats doubtful, we know next to nothing about Christchurch or that south Island bid other than they need investors, and apparently they are sourcing them from facebook ffs...
And Perth..well, that the horn you love to toot, theyd gladly sleep with any club as long as they hold the licence, so it seems

You cant see a scenario where Perth or Christchurch get into the NRL without the Bears?
Can you see a scenario where Bears get in NRL without one of those cities (or another)?

That should tell you which foot the shoe is on.

I can see perth getting a team of their own eventually, or quicker with one of either jets/bears/eastsT link up or ownership and i can see bears in a desirable locale getting a team on their own too, i cant see Christchurch getting a team of thier own tho.. that would a complete start up in RU territory, you have to sell it to them, and they have to want it.. we cant just build it and hope they catch fire

OK so we’ve heard the Bears mentioned with Perth, I’ve heard that 50% of NRL Coaches are in favour of Perth for the 18th team, but we’ve still heard absolutely nothing from anybody from WA since the NRL double header in August ?. Talk back in August was linking with either the Bears or the Jets but I haven’t heard of any WA bids, backers etc for what feels years ?.

Oh no, we cant be talking about WA bids, because the NRL haven't tendered the licence yet or picked a location remember, dont want to get burnt again

Its obviously the way the WA govt/Perth consortium are playing it, maybe at the NRls request. Over the years Cumins has been very vocal so it is interesting this time its much more behind doors.
Govts are bad news adverse so Im not surprised they arent making a song and dance about it in case it doesnt succeed. The guy from the conusltancy company they have engaged to develop the bid was on radio last week and briefly mentioned the work they are doing on it and that they have sponsors lined up to be on board tomorrow.

I dont doubt theres things happening behind the scenes in terms of business case, ownership, pathway partnerships and sponsors. The frustrated fans are there so no work needed to publicly get people excited. Without knowing if PNG is def club 18 and IF NRl is going to 20 teams theres not a lot of point being very public about anything. Abdo has said club 18 decision wont be made till end of year, let alone how long club 19 and 20 decision will take.

NRL wont decide on expansion based on news paper inches of prospective bids.

There were a few articles

one which quoted pvl as saying he was impressed with how keen the wa govt were to get an nrl team

the focus was on the cba negotiations, then the pacific cup then Vegas

Then they need to sort out png before even thinking of what a Perth nrl side looks like

I have a soft spot for the Bears they were an unfortunate victim of the superleague War and whilst having access to pathways is great it does seem odd to start a new franchise with the Ghost of an old club hanging over them from day one.

We've heard absolutely nothing from the Bears, in that timeframe either.

Don't confuse Rothfield and the Boomer media contingent constantly raising them in the press with the Bears formal announcements.

Frankly this is the same for PNG, without Fox and News constantly writing about it, its been pretty much crickets.

Yes but atleast Daniel Dickson has come to the forefront stated his non-negotiables, where the Bears have been in talks with the NRL and who the Bears may link with.
And the Bears are actually real, we are an entity.
You have to admit WA has had absolutely nothing ?.
Apart from the WA Premier saying they would like to see a team in WA and the possibility of linking with the Bears that has been it.
Perth Red keeps talking about all of these consortiums, ready and waiting with all of their $$$, where are they ?.
WA has been the quietest of all the areas.

Actually I can’t see the Bears ever coming back without being linked to a location outside of NSW but I also can’t see the NRL admitting a team from WA unless they are heavily linked with a NRL pathways team from the NSW Cup or QLD Cup.
Melbourne were very lucky to pick up many players from the Perth Reds and Hunter Mariners when they entered the NRL in 1998, the Storm had a pathways partnership with the Norths Devils which gave them future champions like Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk.
After the demise of the Northern Eagles, the Storm pounced again forming a pathways alliance with the Bears.
This year the Storm have the 2023 NSW Cup Grand Finalists and Minor Premiers the Bears, QLD Cup Host Plus Premiers the Brisbane Tigers and the Sunshine Coast Falcons as their feeder clubs.
I hear the Bears have been closely looking at the Storms set up in Melbourne.

I agree, but Bears arent the only option in that regard. Perth has choice of who it partners with for east coast pathways, Bears really dont in regards to being part of an nrl club. Hence why the cards are being held by Perth, not the bears, something the Bears board, and some fans, seem to really struggle to grasp.
