No ones suggesting prohibition, but making access harder and changing public perception, clearly that has shown to work in minimiing useage and therefore health and social issues. Besides my issue is not the vice, its the game of rugby league exploiting people who cant control themselves and building the game on such ill gotten gains.
But hey ho, do you really care that much what my opinion is on this subject?
You’ve expressed this opinion 100s of times on this forum so you have to expect a response. Every sport in the professional world will have links to gambling revenue. In your case you seem to use your criticism as an excuse for another shot at Sydney clubs. Needless to say this annoys people as your agenda is clear. Personally I could not care less. I gamble regularly on horses and grey hounds and enjoy it immensely.

I think that would be a definite. Like the Charity shield. Add in a game at Allianz (if commercially it stacks up) and 'away' games against Roosters and Souths at Allianz and you have a 4 game membership for NSW Bears fans to buy. From a WA perspective I could live with that.
How can they sell away games when they don’t get the ticket revenue

I know, I participate in them regularly and have done basically since the day the Bears and Eagles merged. We may have discussed this stuff in the past without you even realising it. It's the reason I'm so informed on this topic.

The only difference between people like you and me is that I'm capable of remaining objective when it comes to the Bears and you're not. Which is why you're tying yourself into knots trying to explain away inconvenient comments made by board members and the chairman as totally meaningless.
So your Name ?.

I don’t think there’s a whiteboard at Rugby League HQ marking out a strategy on how best to exploit the vulnerable for profit. I guess what you’re trying to say is the game should take the moral high ground and find a revenue stream that doesn’t harm anyone. Clubs have woken up to finding other revenue streams, particularly after covid. I know the roosters pokies profit gets reduced year on year and their investment portfolio is growing. Don’t think pokies will ever go away but with the exception of a couple of clubs, they’re not going to be the big gambling dens they once were.

agreement with the hosting club. Warriors used to do a Sydney membership for its fans. So the hosting club gets X $'s per membership sold. Lets say that a Perth Bears Sydney supporters membership is $150 for 3 NRl games plus pre season NSO game. Souths and Roosters get $20 each for every membership sold. Or something along those lines. NRL crowds in Sydney would be much bigger if they all did reciprocal membership agreements for games.

And what if the joint venture fails on the ground by having poor crowds , poor results and losing large amounts of money every year?

what then?
That's the risk with expanding into Perth. Regardless of whether it's a transplanted Sydney team or a new entity owned by a local consortium, it will need to win more games than it loses to win over a parochial fumbleball market.

Storm were gifted a strong roster and financial support from News Ltd for 20 years. Perth won't have this luxury.

Same could be said for any new club (and in fact any established club barring one or two). How big do you think the dolphins will be if they stay 13th for the next 5 years?

Yet you're fine with Peter Cumins running a business that provides high interest loans to drug addicts so they can buy crystal meth amphetamine, then use those "ill-gotten gains" to sponsor a Perth-based NRL team?

If the Perth Bear goes ahead I'd have all home games in Perth regular season.

Host an annual Bears/Manly trial at NSO similar to the Charity Shield. Make it an event.
All 12 games would need to be played at PRS. A couple of trials at NSO won't hurt.

A local consortium would need to own 75% otf he club.

Would they be the Perth Bears or West Coast Bears?

Either would do, though West Coast is more inclusive of the whole state but Perth is more recognizable as a location. As long as its not "The" Bears I'm not fussed! I woudl like to see the brand freshened up though. This still remains one of the better ideas thats been done

True but my initial point was if it was to be the Perth bears then how long before we start hearing the calls for to relocate the struggling Perth bears to the central coast/NSO?

Ownership does away with that issue. As long as its owned by WA, based in WA and the only link to NS, in terms of decision making, is through a pathways partnership then it wont matter what the sydney nostalgics want.
