Why would they pay more when the rights were handed to them on a silver platter?

If some one offers you a $20 steak for just $10 then are you going to hand them a $20 bill?

Your condescensing rant might hold some substance if Gyngel said Ch9 would pay an extra $20m more for four fewer Broncos games and Brisbane 2.

Gyngel said a second Brisbane team will add $20m per annum to the broadcast rights. He never said he would pay that figure in the advent that Ch9 lost four Broncos games.

Learn context.

Foxtel paid the extra $20m, BTW.

You're just trying to divert attention away from the fact the Dolphins brought in the exact figure Gyngel said they were worth.

You don't like it when you're wrong, hey?

At this stage I don't even know what point you're trying to make. If you think the ARLC is going to stand up to the broadcasters in 2027 then you're in for a rude shock. News Ltd and Ch9 will turn the clubs against V'landys and Abdo if they don't toe the line. They did it to Smith and Greenberg. It's what they do when they don't get the rights under their terms.

That's a lot of words when you could have just said that ch9 values a 2nd Brisbane team at a total of $0.

If you're going to say Ch9 believes Brisbane 2 is worth $0 then you'll have to agree that a) PNG is more valuable and lucrative than Perth and b) Melbourne provides zero value to the NRL due to its poor TV ratings.

I just had a look at it.

The deal will be for an average of $115 million in cash per year with a further $15 million of contra and other non-cash services to be provided. The terms are similar to the current deal that finishes after the 2022 season, which is worth an average of $115 million per year plus $10 million contra.

It's $15m. An increase of $5m on the previous deal.
I know what they’re paying, and it isnt $30millin contra which is what you claimed.

The PNG bid is financially backed by the Australian and PNG Gov. It has strong support from the ARLC and is talked up by the media. Significant money is wing invested in junior RL across PNG by the Aus Gov. Perth's bid is run on an oily tag by a pawnbroker and has no financial support from the WA Gov.

You'll say that's a half-arsed assessment of the two bids because it doesn't take PNG's socio-economic problems and logistical issues into consideration. However, you continuously ignore the fact V'landys botched the broadcast deal whenever the Dolphins' value is brought up so you can argue thr Ch9 paid nothing for the club's admission. You also ignore the fact Foxtel paid an extra $20m for the Dolphins. You also ignore the fact Ch9 lost four games of the most watched team in the NRL. In other words, you and Maxipad and telling half-truths by omitting key details.

I thought you were talking about ch9.

aside from the fact png is third world country with massive social problems you’re right. I’ll be surprised if png isn’t club 18, I’ll also be surprised if it works. I hope it does but the odds are slim.

you have no idea what support wa govt is offering. Stop stating your option as fact, that’s Wb‘s domain.

ch9 got 6 more brisbane specific games in 2023, and paid nothing for it. Thems the facts. You can blame vlandys or you can say ch9 didn’t rate the value of brisbane2 enough to pay for the extra brisbane content. Both are probably true. The fact is that ch9 paid nothing for brisbane2.

I wouldn't have to agree with any of that. We know ch9 sees Brisbane 2 as a negative, because they get less Broncos games (you told us that remember).

Does the imminent demise of the Melb Rebels have any effect on our expansion?
Perhaps a red flag for putting teams where there isn’t enough support?
Or is it just a win and the NRL will assume their supporters will come to the Storm? (I would assume that a lot would “support” both and not a huge number of the Union only supporters would come to League in any case. )

I’ll be interested in how this plays out over the next few years.

Don’t be silly - I don’t think Channel Nine would consider them a negative.

The biggest lesson to be learned is simply that broadcasters, like every other business, do what is in their best interests. If they can get something for free or blindside the other negotiator - if they can get a high rating team for free because the ARLC are too inept to get them to pay - they will take that opportunity again and again.

As a consequence I would not be arguing like some others; however, to continue to take them on their word or just do what they want.

I don't either. I think they just shit all over the game because they can, and this was just another example of it.

I'm just using his own words to show why his current argument that we should just do whatever they want is dumb, considering according to him, they don't even value what we've previously given them.

Union is struggling in Sydney and Brisbane to. There problem was to many teams in Australia.

In my experience there wasn't much crossover in fanbase.

That has always been a concern to me, Which is why my preference is an established club link with these types of areas

Yeh similar experience. There is a crossover in Union fans and Storm fans, particularly the kiwis, but I’ve never heard Union fans I work with talk even about the Rebels.

GC are a regional team, They will rate of course better than a Sydney team but still a downgrade on a Broncos game

I know for a fact that the WA Gov won't be involved with running the club.

"Although the State Government won't be leading the bid or responsible for a potential franchise, we are confident that there will be a strong and compelling case for a WA-based team." -- Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman

No financial support from the WA Gov. It all falls down to the pawnbroker.

The only reason V'landys is talking about expanding to 20 teams is because Foxtel and Ch9 played him like a fiddle on the last broadcast deal.

The whole point in expanding is to bring more money into the game.

PNG provides guaranteed money from the Aus and PNG Gov.

It's foolish to think teams in Adelaide and Perth will generate more money than one from Brisbane.

The best plan. Would be Southern orcas
Or Southern Marlins
Pasifika Grizzlies Bear's 🐻
And Brisbane West team
Brisbane Cougars
