So are we doing expansion based solely on what makes the Broncos crowd average bigger now?
reality is it barely had any effect, a winning team was far more a factor. Despite the hype of the dolphins and the boost of a derby game the Broncos crowds last year were still lower than 13 years ago.
between 33-34k is their norm when they doing well. Dolphins made no difference to that last year.

Like I said the ONLY time RL here hasnt been super conservative was in the late 80's to early 90's. Out of 115 years thats about 15 years of courage and growth!
1908 to 1910 took on the established rugby union and destroyed it

the problem was clubs like Perth and the cowboys who were in the comp for five minutes before they left it

had they stayed loyal super league wouldnt have happened

that’s where the blame lies

You mean how we were in 95 ?
Melbourne Perth Adelaide and Warriors were expansion. Dolphins were consolidation. I’m glad we consolidated with The Dolphins. It’s time to be brave again. Perth is the obvious next club imho. I’m not concerned if people disagree. Each to their own. I just happen to believe the loss of Perth was very wrong (Adelaide less so) and it’s time to do it again properly. If we’d never lost Perth in the first place we’d be having a very different conversation. Shafting them was a very strategically poor decision for a national comp. Given what’s happening in PNG they are a good 5 years off at least. If the national body decides otherwise it needs to be a very bold plan. NZ2 edged ahead of pNG for me this week. Still a few years off. Perth should be announced now. The rival code will hate it.

haha, sure perth not joining Sl would have stopped it in its tracks. cuckoo cuckoo.

So whats been the excuse since 2012? Here we are over a decade of independent ownership later and all we have to show is 1 extra heartland club, and that took 10 years to happen!

If, and its a big if we see 3 more clubs added (non heartland) in the next decade I will class this current administration in same level as the late 80's/early 90's ARL. But only time can judge them.

Back to your point earlier. A brave sport expands into new markets. A conservative sport consolidates existing markets. It’s time we became the former and not the latter again.

Is anyone really talking about existing markets?

Every Interview from Abdo and PVL mention expanding beyond where we are now

My point is rugby league has been there before

the fact it doesn’t have clubs in those markets is solely down to news ltd and the clubs themselves for betraying the arl

literally in five years vlandys will have added 3 clubs

and vlandys is ahead arko and Quayle took over an already strong game and grew it

just about all the momentum we have no came from the current leadership

Bears have been told not in Sydney, Them in Brisbane makes no sense with Brisbane Easts lurking.

Adelaide is way way down the list
Hasnt stopped them cooking up the NSW Bears idea or the Pacifika bears based in Sydney tom foolery! Easts have pivoted their bid to a queensland regional bid.

The thing is that no area that has current interest in the NRL has no interest ìn the bears. If they want back in they should go to an area and start building.
Not sure of the interest or the capacity in Adelaide for a team yet.

In 2040 or whenever we go to 22 teams they will still around to go to them

That’s an old argument from over 25 years ago that has no currency now. The rights and wrongs of it are highly debatable and no longer interesting. The Perth team was genuine expansion and should have been kept in my opinion. They were sold out by short term interests. For the betterment of the game long term we should already be back in that market and should never have left. For blokes like PR, love him or hate him, throwing out Perth was a very poor call given the gains we were making there. The Perth league community was decimated by that decision and it’s hardly surprising that it still hurts. Perth lost a team, but we lost an opportunity to genuinely compete with the fumblers. Instead we gave them Perth completely and they took the opportunity to genuinely expand in return. If we put another team in Brisbane rather than Perth then we might as well give up imho. It’s time the game showed confidence in itself and hit the opposition where it hurts.
