I'm disappointed with the Queensland Gov for its poor handling of the Olympics.

The Brisbane bid was based on not having to build much infrastructure.

Palaszczuk undermined the bid by sucking up to fumbleball with the unnecessary Gabba rebuild.

The F1 was better in Adelaide.

The Australian Open should be indoors in Brisbane. The hot dry winds from the desert that smother Melbourne in January is horrible for a tennis tournament. Temperatures regularly reach 40 degrees.

Also, last year's Australian Open had 70,000 more people attend than the next highest grand slam.

hahah 5,500 capacity v 15k capacity.
Why do you build small things in Brisbane?
Even Perth has a tennis arena that can hold 14k!
Perth doesn't have a "tennis arena that can hold 14k". It has an arena that can be modified for tennis, but it's not a tennis court per se. The Western Australian State Tennis Centre doesn't have an arena.

Its an arena they play top class tennis in. Doh!
5,500 and you think Brisbane should host an open? lol

Name one rugby league stadium in England that's better than Lang Park?

I'm talking rugby league stadia that has a 100 x 68 m playing field and proper in-goals. Not a soccer stadium that has to shorten the length of the playing field and play with 6m in-goals with no protection for the players.

IOC said Gabba is fine. Not having to build new stadia is why they awarded Brisbane the 2032 Olympics.

Perth cannot afford to host the Commonwealth Games. Enough said.
Actually the IOC suggested Carrara.

You can’t have athletics at the Gabba without significant restructuring of the stadium. It is way too short, does not have sufficient media facilities nor secure access like any modern stadium. All Melbourne stadiums have large undeground car parks and secure entry. Assume other modern stadiums like Commbank and have this? Lang Park?

I am not sure if there's parking at Lang Park. There is an underground section to the south of the southern stand for buses to ferry people in and out of the ground.

If there's an upgrade it should be for Lang Park. The athletics could be hosted on the Gold Coast.

It's an ATP 250 WTA 500 event. 5,500 is sufficient. There's land reserved for another arena at QSTC.
seems to be Brisbane mentality, 'yeh its sht but its sufficient'. Shame you haven't taken your Ikea mentality and applied it to stadiums :)
Good job you have Suncorp as the rest of your facilities are way behind the other cities. Mind you even Perth gets more to Origin than Brisbane these days lol

Doubt there’s parking

but public transport is included in the cost of the ticket

Pat Rafter Arena has this thing called a roof. It's good at blocking sunlight.

And? So does Rod Laver Arena, and John Cain Arena, and Margaret Court Arena. Oh and all 3 have higher capacities than Pat Rafter Arena has. Do the 2 show courts with a roof in Brisbane even have seats.

Do you know how many matches are held at the Australian Open each day? There is more than just the men's and women's draws. The 2 finalists played a total of 5 games on Margaret Court Arena because Rod Laver Arena is so busy, where would they play under your plan for it to be played in Brisbane?

Perth doesn't have a proper ATP/WTA event!

The Hopman Cup was run by the ITF. The United Cup has been such a failure the Queensland Gov got rid of it and resurrected the Brisbane International.

Brisbane doesn't need a big fumbleball oval. We're not a fumbleball city.

Perth doesn't have a quality rugby league stadium. Gloating about a fumbleball oval proves you're just an AwFuL troll.

There's land reserved for another arena at Tennyson. It's fine as it is for an ATP 250 WTA 500 event.

You claimed it should be holding the Australian Open. 2 arenas still doesn't come close to Melbourne Park with 6 arenas with permanent seating for 3,000+ people.

Also, don't you regularly say that the WA govt should build a new stadium before they ever get considered for a team? Why does the same not apply for the QLD govt and the grand slam?

Queensland Gov would need to build the infrastructure before getting the rights to the event.

I dont follow tennis so wouldnt now but its looks like you're wrong?

cricket, afl, big stadium concerts, Brisbane is being left behind not having a decent oval. Even your jewel in the crown Suncorp cant host big games really anymore in comparison to other cities. I mean theres only Adelaide with a smaller capacity option than Brisbane these days lol
you're right, took us a couple of decades to finally get the oval sorted, we have a world class indoor arena, hopefully rectangular stadium is next and sooner.
