AFL clubs are counting non-paying members on an email list .... their numbers are ignorable.

I'd love to see a comparison of GC membership revenue
Wookie has told us that isnt the case. Its paid memberships only according to him.

Suns had $6.3mill revenue from membership and gate takings in 2022 according to their annual financials, off a 21.4k membership and 11.3k crowd avg.
As a comparison Roosters in 2022 had 18k members and a crowd avg of 17k for a $4.8mill membership and gate taking revenue.
That would suggest Suns sell a lot more expensive memberships compared to Roosters.

Giants are worse

plus their crowds in Sydney are under 5k

yet people on here use membership figures as one factor in afl being number one

you sound in denial.
We should all be threatened if you are a RL fan, we keep falling behind in revenue and its about to get a lot worse.
Afl red strikes again. Lost his footy side quarter of a century ago but still holds the biggest grudge in sports history against a code he pretends to support. 25 years of abject misery and 60000 posts later his hatred of the game’s administrators is manifest.

Just listened to the Florimo interview. He actually said he wants 8 games at NSO in any collaboration, but would accept 4 or more lol. Sorry Bears fans, you're not coming back!
TBF, Florimo's opinion isn't really all that relevant as he's the "Wellbeing, Education and Community Manager" at Norths. He isn't really involved in the administration of the club in any significant way anymore, and wouldn't be involved in any discussions about a partnership/merger.

In saying that members of the board of directors have said similarly insane things many times in the past, and his opinion isn't particularly unusual of people associated with the Bears. On average they're all pretty delusional about their position and what's realistic.

In todays Australian :

"IF there was any doubt about the decline of New Zealand rugby, it was washed away by a dominant French team"

"The All Blacks became bereft of ideas as the French defence squeezed them into multiple errors and turnovers. Kiwi fans’ fears that this team was eroding in ability and ruthlessness materialised.

"The signs have been there since they were bundled out in the 2019 World Cup semi-final by England, and have proceeded to lose a host of key games they otherwise used to win comfortably.

"It’s now clear to see that they are no longer the force they used to be.

"It’s a stark reality for Kiwis to accept, but a definitive shift in the world game.

"While New Zealand attempted to play with flair, the boring version of rugby got the better of them.

"The All Blacks continue to make themselves vulnerable, caught between trying to remain the world’s best attacking team and adapting a territory-focused approach."

Does make you wonder how the Kiwi population will react if a} their team does continue to slide down the world rankings, and b) are forced to adopt the god-awful boring territorial approach to union that is played in the northern hemisphere and seems to be dominating the game now.
Certainly you would think it leaves the door open for a more attractive less dour code that is on their doorstep to make its` move.

Wookie has also said that for the AFL that hasnt been the case since 2020. There is no longer a minimum spend requirement. The headline AFL number is largely irrelevant now, although the league does supply a breakdown of the total figuires.

if you take Auskick and non access memberships out, you can reduce the total by 20%

if nrl has more teams than the afl for the first time since 95 then it’s obvious we get a significantly higher tv deal than anyone else

afl had the advantage of two more teams and way more games until recently

and teams like nz2 or Brisbane 3 will be hugely valuable to sky nz and fox / nein

with the state of the game in nz now nz2 has to come in next imo

It might be obvious, but ratings numbers havent seemed to mean much at alll when comparing the two deals.

Watched a fair chunk of this last night. Seems like every time I see RU they've appropriated more NRL rules and tropes. Uncredited, of course. The latest are a bunker, shot clocks, and the ref crossing his arms to signal "on report".
Certainly you would think it leaves the door open for a more attractive less dour code that is on their doorstep to make its` move.
On the other side of the ledger, within 2 minutes there was a defence-splitting short pass that would probably have been called forward in League (or at least had commentators saying it was forward), followed by a play which would probably have been penalized as obstruction in League.

Obsessive calling of forward passes/obstructions/knock-ons is our equivalent of Union refs finding things to call in their shambolic rucks. We really need to get on top of this if we want to remain the indisputably "more attractive less dour code". Easily done - just instruct officials to give the benefit of the doubt to the attacking team and Play On.

A) ratings are reflective of the relative popularity of the two codes. Obviously there is a clear winner

B) going forward can afl keep it up ? Probably not the fundamentals don’t support it. You can’t patch over declining ratings especially in nsw and qld. And lack of any further expansion options

C) nrl will just keep adding valuable teams and growing ratings and tv dollars

D) previous nrl leaders either didn’t know our rafting’s were so dominant or couldn’t monetise it

thank you linesman and ballboys
