Panthers is an Australian sporting behemoth on the level of Madrid and Dallas rolled into one though. Expecting any club to cater to non-east coast markets like they do is asinine.

If Sky holds a monopoly over New Zealand then Foxtel holds a monopoly over Australia. No one is going to outbid Foxtel. Ch7 doesn't have the money to out bid Ch9.

It doesn't matter how much money the mining sector in Western Australia generates. All that matters is how many Western Australian companies are willing to invest in rugby league.

Rugby league is a minority sport in Western Australia.

That first paragraph is nonsense.

You don’t think they would invest more if there was an actual WA side in the competition?

There's nothing stopping a Perth-based company from sponsoring an existing NRL club from the east coast. We don't need an NRL club in Perth to lure in sponsorship from companies that are based in Western Australia.

How many Perth-based companies are currently sponsoring NRL clubs?
Haha, you've made up a bullshit reason to not have a team, then when that got comprehensively shot down, you've pivoted 180 degrees.

If only we had a very recent example of multiple networks in Australia bidding record monies on a major sport.
The expansionists argue the game needs teams in Adelaide and Perth to generate more revenue from sponsorship. The fact we've got a Western Australian company sponsoring Penrith suggests their claim is bullshit.
This is the most bizarre logic. What about other sponsors? There is one sponsoring the Panthers, so that's it? Don't worry about trying to cast the net any wider?

PNG ain't generating any money

They have Coke.

Mobil is a brand in Australia, NZ and PNG.

Santos has been a Wallabies sponsor, No reason they don't get involved in the game too.

These multi-nationals are adding potential customers, granted they are a poor country but they are 4x the population of say Perth so you have the same potential for sales at the very least

Well width wise raiders fans would be largest I guess lol..

Nah I have seen some way fatter supporters out there. It would also mean that we are not the smallest supporter group now so you have contradicted yourself

By the way, who do you actually go for?

Mate, you can't seriously think that PNG has the same commercial market as an Australian city?

It's just not a desirable market for sponsors, that's an undeniable fact.

Without government intervention, this wouldn't even be a discussion.

what even is this argument? we don't mean attracting companies from WA but attracting more national sponsors and more dollars because the NRL has a presence in the 4th largest city.

Seems like we already are in 1, 2, 3 and 6 already plus Auckland, Canberra, Townsville, and Newcastle seems pretty well spread out, I'm not objecting to enter into 4 and 5, but when and how is the issue, not if... again we should be making sure the player pool is overflowing before considering any area that isn't playing the game at reserve grade level, basically rules out Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne2
If we can boost that player pool somewhat, then there's no reason not to venture into those areas,
Those here advocating for SEQ4 and/or PNG dont realise that as soon as these get licensed, the player pool increases, and those "AFL states" cities are going to be looked at, aswell as vice versa for those who are not advocating for SEQ4 and PNG, then those AFL states lay dormant
