No, they just pay the NRL less than its worth, of course its a good deal for fox.

Have you seen the ads on Fox League? Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC, Sportsbet, KFC....
If Foxtel believed they could generate more advertising revenue on Fox League by having teams in Adelaide and Perth then they would pressure the NRL into expanding into these markets.

Just on who Ch9 is keen to show (2024 FTA games)

Broncos 13 games
Melbourne 12 games
Dolphins 11 games
NZ 4 games
I told you Ch9 wanted Brisbane 2. The only reason they paid nothing is because V'landys botched the negotiation.

You can bet your arse Ch9 will want Brisbane 3.

What they won't want is Perth.

Name one streaming service that's willing to cover production costs and pay $250m per annum?

Ch10/Paramount and Ch9/STAN might bid for the lot, but I'll be surprised if they can match what Foxtel provide. Ch9 might be happy to saddle up with Foxtel.
Its more likely valuable to own it all rather than to split it that could be a decider. If the $500 and $600mill a year bids from stan and paramount are to be believed for AFL then its likely them owning all the rights would be worth more than fta + Foxsports separately.

If they can offer enough to make a change irresistible is the doubtful thing. NRl is conservative and better the devil you know will be their attitude.

Having said that at the current $115mill (FTA) + $240mill (ptv) it will take a big upswing from fta and Foxsports separately to hold on if either party offer afl size bids.

Netflix is in PNG. If no one has power why would they be there

plenty of places stated that figure

So the NRL will go to a venue with zero money in for them to keep Feds happy?

zero chance of that. If there was no money in it they wouldn't go there.

They have said many times the NRL want to be the top sport in the Pacific, They clearly have been told that it is worth more as a result

Particularly if you want to get Amazon, Netflix, ESPN to be players in TV rights
You have NFI about PNG, if you think it's a TV market. It's laughable that you think they capture TVv ratings there. It would be close to the smallest TV market in the world

And no, Amazon or Netflix aren't going to bid huge money for PNG or Pacific TV rights.

News Flash for you mate, the NRL hasn't gone there and no they aren't going to make any money out of it, if they did.

Not necessarily, Fox seem quite happy to keep NRL down so as not to have to pay more for the product. Fox know the more valuable NRL becomes the more competitors they will have for the rights. Advertising income increase wouldnt be as much as a vibrant fully national NRl courting multiple bidders at rights renewal time.

Melbourne are a winning team with a star-studded roster.

People like to watch quality teams.

When Melbourne become a losing team the amount of games they get on FTA will decrease.

Perth will not replicate Melbourne's onfield success.
so location is less important than success? Well thats a break through lol

bit simplistic though. Souths were hardly successful last year but feature 14 times on FTA this season.

The least featured teams are the non metro and International ones (Knights aside), almost like metro markets are more important to Ch9?
Warriors 4 games
Titans 5 games (wow SEQ is so important to Ch9 lol)
Raiders 7 games
Cowboys 10 games

Pretty much everything you say about a national footprint and broadcast rights is just your opinion.

You've argued ad nauseum that we need teams in Adelaide and Perth to drive up the value of the broadcast rights.

One of the logical fallacies you use to promote your bullshit theory is the Melbourne Storm. For your theory to be correct then Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth would need to finish in the top four every year and win about 50-75% of the premierships, with the bulk of the Queensland and NSW Origin teams spread across these three clubs. That's not going to happen.

What evidence do you have that the Storm TV ratings are related to their on field success?

Well if you look at the nations two most popular sports, their footprint and the tv value (not to mention sponsorship revenue and govt influence))

one has 15 of 17 teams across every metro market and a tv deal in region of $570mill pending, overall revenue $944mill in 2022
and one has 12 of 17 teams in 3/5 metro markets and a tv deal of $400mill, and overall revenue of $600mill in 2022

Hmmmm whats that about no evidence of metro value?

he doesnt, its his opinion. Theres mutliple variables at play.
Success, location, star player roster, atmosphere at games, appeal to sponsors, interest in big clubs from neutrals, hyping up of games against certain clubs and so it goes on.

simple is as simple types.
Im sure they know exactly what they are doing. Its hardly like they are doing an amazing job promoting the game is it? NRL360 spends every night running the game down! It isnt Murdochs favourite remember?

Im sure Fox is very happu only paying what its paying and keeping numbers costs where they are at. The more viewers they get the more valuable NRl becomes and the more they have to pay each deal. This is News Ltd we are talkign about, one of the scummiest businesses out there.

We literally see pictures galore of them stacked around TV's for big games

I don't think they will ever bid BUT being only in Australia and part of NZ won't get it done either.

So no here will watch the 9th game? It is a 9th game worth of ads to sell.

It gives them 3 games on a Sunday to sell a naming rights sponsor.

6.30 on a Sat night instead of having 100k watching Matty Johns show. They will have 300k watching an NRL games again great to sell to sponsors.

There is no Guarantee any of the new teams will bring in new subs but it is more content to get advertising for.

That is why the 9th game is valuable

You've changed topics here.

Yes an extra game is worth more to Australian TV, but we were discussing PNG TV. Of course this applies to any bid though.

It's highly doubtful that PNG will be any type of ratings winner in OZ, though.
