One city that should be on the NRL's radar is Geelong. The population there is large enough for an NRL team.

And that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Mariners have tapped in the community, and have built a businees funding model like English soccer, with their key asset being Soccer 5s

They are steadily building into a powerhouse and I would not be surprised if they start funding a privately owned new Stadium in Tuggerah soon
Mariners have lost money every year since the A-League began. They're a basket case.

The whole A League is loosing money, the whole competition is a basket case.
The Mariners lost a majority of their top squad and won all three major titles in 2024 yet rugby league is and remains the Central Coasts major sport.
The Mariners have always been the paupers of the A League competition.

NRL and AwFuL are pulling ahead of the other sports leagues.

The reason why the A-League is in a shambles is thanks to the brain surgeons who spent the money from their broadcast deal on an app that everyone, including blind Freddy, knew would be a disaster.

Not to mention the nanny state doing its best to kill fan engagement and alsogiving the tar and feather treatment to all football fans portraying them as hooligans.

Go use the search function and see for yourself. I said the Storm draw poor ratings in Melbourne. It doesn't change the fact they're one of the most watched clubs on Foxtel. Yes, a lot of it has to do with them being successful and entering the NRL when SEQ was starved of content. Doesn't change the fact they're successful. I've argued that their popularity in Queensland and NSW will decline when their onfield success comes to a halt. When it does their value to the broadcasters will drop. Until that happens they'll bs one of the more valuable teams.

The violence at games is terrifying. The one that was started by a team official on a referee and culminated in fans running onto the field to hurl weapons was a disgrace.

Soccer fans didn't help themselves. Every soccer fan who took a flare into a stadium and lit it up gave the media ammunition to use against them. The fans who vandalised seats at stadia by jumping on them while they did their chants gave the media a reason to tar them as thugs. The fans who sprayed graffiti on public property came across as disrespectful arseholes. The fans who ran onto MRS and hit a player in the head with a bucket belong in prison.
