Obviously we will likely never know the whole truth of it, but a lot of the chat has changed to "he didn't even know". Which is absolutely a failure of leadership in itself, but honestly I think you bring Smith straight back in. He just never captains Australia again.
They both walk straight back in imo

He shouldn't have been burdened with the captaincy TBH

Warner and Lehman should have been sent packing long ago

We didn't really have a tonne of options to be fair, and he obviously had the respect of his team to be given the job.

But there were definitely a lot of concerns about the way his captaincy was going even before the sandpaper thing. Tactics and team standards and that are probably a longer discussion for another place, but I'm not sure he has the personality for it, honestly. Even a guy like Michael Clarke, divisive and flawed as he was, pretty much came out of the job with the general consensus being roughly "he was a good captain, but..."

I'm not sure Smith will have the same legacy. As a captain, anyway

I don't agree on Warner.

I don't think you can heavily insinuate (or outright admit) that he was the problem in the side, have a review that exposes a win at all costs mentality, pledge to change the way the team plays and drop the win at all costs image....and then go straight to picking the bloke who you've said was basically the root of the problem just so you can win test matches.

Just wait and see, Warner will be picked again and the media will peddle redemption stories and tales of how he's a changed man and how much he grew as a person during his suspension.

When he was cheating the DRS in India I knew he wasn't the right man for the job. But the other options weren't great.

Paine will be gone soon with his batting. They might have to choose a bowler.

Surely he deserves the opportunity to assimilate into the new regime. Lehman and Smith did nothing to reign in his absurd behaviour. He shouldn't receive any special treatment but leaving good cricketers out of the team because of shitty attitudes that go unchecked is a slippery slope.

We want the best players out there representing the country with pride. If he doesn't want to do that, I agree, he should f**k right off but he needs to be given a chance to atone first.

Sadly you're probably spot on.

What it is is the mates club. If you don't fit in you're out or you have to lick a lot of arse to stay there.

Guys that are a little bit off centre have to either be f**king brilliant to stay in or else they've moved on for a plodder who toes the line.

That's Australian cricket.

Yeah.

The powers that be still treat the Australian team like their own personal club team, not the team that represents Australia.

Wow. I'll be interested to see the Warner lovers reaction when Kholi or any other Indian acts like a dickhead.

The bloke is cancer yet they want to live with cancer.

If Warner comes back in, they're a disgrace

I wouldn't say that there's any moral reason why Warner can't be brought back in. I just think Australia would be foolish to do it.

I'm not saying he should never be back, blacklisted forever. I wouldn't put him back in the side straight away like I would Smith, but I wouldn't completely blacklist him. If he went back to shield cricket, batted well and genuinely demonstrated that he'd learnt from the whole experience and grown the f**k up, sure, welcome back. But I certainly don't think we should pick him before he demonstrates that he's at least reflected on the things that brought him to this place and made an effort to address them.

Unfortunately for him I just don't see it happening given the way he's carried himself so far. He seems to genuinely feel he's the victim in all off this.
