This pitch is pretty flat. The fast bowlers are busting their arses for not a lot

I think the Adelaide/Brisbane groundsmen have been under pressure to produce a flatter pitch for the day/night tests this season after complaints from the players that last year's test vs New Zealand was too green (although I disagree with that when compared with the pitch at Hobart in 2011) and only lasted 3 days.

If Warne had gotten his way and Smith declared when they got to a lead of 400 it would be a little more tense out there.

Would be nice for Pakistan to cross 400 before they're all out just for the lols.

Warnie knows best.

Id say that the dew factor and traditionally pretty good crowds would rule out Sydney and Melbourne from day night tests. The time zone in perth would probably rule out them as well.

Hobart as a test venue will never see big crowds. The population isn't big enough and the accommodation availability means interstate visitors would be capped.

The pink pill is still a work in progress. The seam flattens out to quickly.

But overall night tests are doing well.

Night test cricket is pretty good. I was cautious at first and thought one a summer or one a series is the way to go but if and when they ramp up the amount of day night tests I won't have any complaints.

As Dave Hussey said in the media last week, it's inevitable that there's going to be more day/night tests scheduled in Australia as tv rules the roost. However, I would be very surprised if the two prestigious tests of the calendar - Boxing Day in Melbourne and New Year's test in Sydney - are changed to day/night. Also, the current timeslot for the Perth test is perfect for the east coast and the days of playing ODIs in Perth finishing after midnight on the east coast have been gone for about a decade, so a day/night test at the new Perth Stadium is out of the question (unless it's against India, and the BCCI push for it, solely for the BCCI's benefit as the game starting at a later time would be broadcast at a better time in India).

I was skeptical about a day/night test at The Gabba due to the higher humidity and possibility the ball would hoop around too much, but that hasn't been the case this test. Also, crowds at the Gabba (for the first 3 days) have benefited from it. Adelaide will still be the premier venue for day/night tests in Australia due to the lower humidity and dry conditions. Hobart's crowds could also benefit, although the smaller population and weather are drawbacks. It can get cold at night in Hobart, even in November/December.

I was halfway through this when f**k SMITH DROPPED ANOTHER ONE!!!!

Anyway

I like the idea of day night tests in places like Hobart and Canberra that don't or can't get huge crowds. Maximise viewing on TV for those games and it can't hurt the crowds either
