Our batting reverts to norm :(

Hopefully Taylor can play next test, I assume they will dump Ryder for good now.

Latham and Flynn would be my openers, cannot persevere with Fulton and Rutherford - might as well open with Taylor and Williamson at the moment

We should still win this, but the pace bowlers not getting the rest they deserved

Southee to the rescue here.

If they can drop anchor till at least half way through the final session the bowlers should get something if a rest.

India needs over 300 in a day to win.

Can only see a draw or a Kiwi win.

Wish the commentators would shutup about Pujara's wrongun, I think the Kiwi quicks have to do the job because these two spinners on atm are cannon fodder. Indians have spinners like this for breakfast.

Still 2 days to go.

What a disaster of a day for NZ.

shit, sorry

I thought the commentators said it was last day tomorrow

probably gives India a bit more of an edge, its really up to the Kiwi quicks for mine

McCullum reverted to type today. Scared of Calcutta, gets run out on the brink of a break, and shells a chance that should have been taken. India will win by 6 wickets I feel.

Bizarre day... and incredibly disappointing...

Still should be able to get there, hopefully Southee and Boult can make some inroads in morning...

McCullum perhaps a stubborn bugger not enforcing follow on due, but terrible batting

I don't think anyone can blame the not following on decision, the batting was to blame

I reckon you'll scrape in

Our inexperience to win big games could haunt us here.

On the openers situation, I give them the next test and if it doesn't work out, look for new blood. Rutherford is an extremely limited player who has plenty of weaknesses, especially with the short ball. Can't believe he scored 171 against the poms all those tests ago. Fulton's a stop gap measure, but has made a reasonable fist of things up there until recently.

Our options in order would be imo

Latham
Guptill

daylight

Flynn
Raval
Redmond
Papps.

So really, we don't have much to offer in that position not that we really have anyway.

I agree, much like the declaration argument after the Eden Park England test I believe the follow-on debate is mostly a red herring. Our batting f**ked up (for the first time in quite a while, mind you), plain and simple.

We weren't ruthless/good enough to score 250 and set them 550, that's why we're in this position, follow-on or not.

I think the kiwis (and us all) were banking on another 100 runs in their 2nd dig

Which would have meant probably a short nasty session on day 3 for India before stumps, and 500 to run down in 2 days. So NZ get to bowl a lot on a 5th day deck if need be

Now a 4th day wicket will give us a result

Unfortunately I can see either a Pujara, Kholi or Dhoni getting the Indians home :(

NZs weakness in test cricket is anything after day 2 of day 3. Usually very competitive half way into the tests, just seen to run out of puff after that

Key moment right there. Southee with close to the ball of the test to get rid of Pujara. That bloke can bat so only fitting he is dismissed by a rip snorter

Where's Joe. Rutherford can't bat, can't field. Surprised this doesn't rate a mention but he is a horrible fielder too.
