The man-love for Darsh among the selectors remains grossly strong. Up there with when North was in the Test side and could find runs in dodgy vindaloo, but at least he had some at FC level.

I can't understand how Marsh is ahead of Bailey in the pecking order. What has Marsh done this season to deserve to be in the squad ahead of Bailey.

North was a strange one though.

Scored 5 centuries & 4 fifties in 21 tests , but the rest of the time struggled.

I could see why the selectors tried with North.

timka4, you copycat you :p

unfortunately I think they will go for doolan/marsh over hughes/henriques

I'd be stunned if henriques doesn't play.

A fifth bowler is almost a must with Johnson & Harris in the line up. ( not because of their form but because of their fitness & the both bowl better in short spells anyway)

If only Faulkner was fit. A strong performance from him this series and Watson may have struggled to get his place back.

Moises isn't a great bowler. He can be handy but he's definitely a batter who can bowl a bit.

It's like retiring from LU but still hanging around

I know that how a few see him, but the reality is henriquesis actually as close as you'll get to a 50/50 all rounder . In particular in the longer form.

You don't have a bowling average of 29 in shield cricket if you can just bowl "a bit"

An average of 29 with a strike rate of 56 is a genuine bowler.

He constantly bowls a quality length.

Henriques averages 29 with the ball. Faulkner averages 22. IMO Faulkner is much more likely to be a success at Test level.

I don't dispute Faulkner is a better bowler.

But its all about the right time & place.

If henriques plays well against the number one test team in the world he may put himself above Faulkner in the pecking order.

I'd also counter with a couple of points,

Faulkner has played the majority of his FC games on a very friendly fast bowling wicket. His stats flatter him to a degree.

Henriques is a more natural batsmen than Faulkner. Better technique.

The way I see it,

Watson - batting all rounder

Henriques - fairly even with the batt &ball

Faulkner - bowling all rounder

It all depends on what the team needs are.

Problem with Faulkner is his natural line and movement is away from the right hander which is not as difficult to face . He needs to develop so a lot of his deliveries come back in to be a decent test bowler.

The other possibility for the team that hasn't been thrown out there is the idea of playing Pattinson.

Would a tail of Johnson , Pattinson , Siddle , Harris & Lyon be enough to counter the loss of an all rounder/batsmen ?

You could bowl all the pace bowlers in short sharp bursts that way.
