 Awesome.

Can't even call it an embarrassment, as this teams been an absolute rabble for some time. From selectors to talentless players, or talented players with the brains of peas. Lol@NZCricket.

Don't care how many players are out injured, when you pick Flynn and Franklin in your top 7 batting you deserve a pasting.

and the reason australia could play the west indies in a one dayer in 1996 on new years day was because there was a boxing day test

go figure!

And back in 1989 the World Series Cup opener was played at the MCG on Boxing Day as a day game. Then they played a neutral game at the WACA on New Years Eve as a day/nighter. Go figure.

Sad day for Kiwi cricket. We Aussies can feel a little better about last year

It would never happen but imagine if SA raced to 150 and declared to get NZ back in before stumps, could finish it in a day and a half and spend the next few days in the pub!

South Africa to declare at tea with a 100-150 run lead. NZ to be out before stumps. How awesomely bad would a one day test match be?

Brownlie is a fraud too.

Guptill is great at the shorter forms but he is looking like one of those players that will struggle to transfer that over into the longer form. Better than anyone else we have though I guess.

Guptill's test record against the top 6 sides must be abysmal.

I don't think anybody wants this to be a one day test match. Even if it is going to be all one sided, time in the middle is valuable

Guptill is the absolute definition of a minow basher.

Both his ODI and Test match record against teams other than Zimbabwe are horrific

Didn't mention Brownlie because the guy hasn't had a sustained period in the team, but yes, not overly impressive.

Guptill's issues are mental imo. The guy has a strike rate of 80 in ODI games and a strike rate of 43 in tests. I think he tries too hard to occupy the crease and as a result just doesn't play in a positive manner at all. Even when he reaches 60-70 he still looks like he's scratching for his first few runs.

My biggest beef remains with the selectors though. Franklin averages 21 with the bat and almost 34 with the ball in tests. He's got no place in international cricket, and just to make it worse, the selectors continue to use T20 and ODI games for development of our next crop of no hope all rounders.

The last thing we need are more players who aren't able to get into the team based on their merit with bat or ball, but get picked because they can do a little of both. How many are we experimenting with at the moment? Franklin, McCullum, Neesham (averages 23 with bat and 35 with ball in first class), Anderson (averages 31 with bat and 43 with ball in FC), Hira (averages 27 with bat and 205 with ball in FC).

No wonder nobody takes responsibility for performance, nobody has to actually earn their place in the team first.

would be interesting to see how he goes against England, New Zealand play them home and away this year. Of course there is a chance Gutill won't play those tests ...

That would require accountability for performance. Something NZ hasn't had for far too many years.
