He ha played more games against India than Sri Lanka. 7 against India and I think 2 against Sri Lanka

When Ricky Ponting was in his prime, he was brilliant at setting up a series, normally scoring a hundred on the first day/innings of a series. Never forget his hundred against England that set up the 5-0 sweep.

Hashim Amla is the best at the world at doing this now. Scores alot of important runs early on in a series to give the Saffas early momentum.

As commentators have mentioned Franklin is might slow. Quite surprising actually I always thought he was low 130's. maybe I was drunk.

NZ batsmen don't have the skills. The country doesn't have the talent. Taylor, Ryder are ok and Williamson looks good. Only one of those is on this tour.

The kiwis problem is their test team is full of ODI & 20/20 specialists whose techniques don't stand up in tests..

And that includes Taylor & Ryder..

I agree that even those two are poor technically, though at least they can play certain shots. Defensively they're always gonna be poor. Williamson has a good technique in my opinion, don't u think?

That may be true, but they both average over 40 in tests which is streets ahead of anyone else in the team and out of Taylor's 8 centuries only 1 of them has been against Zimbabwe, including centuries against England (2), India (3), Australia and Sri Lanka.

Williamson looks good, but he's only 22. Got thrown in way too early, but that is typical of the NZ selectors.

Don't get to see much NZ domestic stuff, but I liked the look of Colin Munro in the T20 games. Had a look to see his FC average with the bat is 58 and even has a bowling average of 31. Yet he gets blooded in T20 and we persist with Franklin in tests.

Flynn has a reputation built on getting smashed in the face with a cricket ball, nothing else.

Guptill reminds me more of Astle in the sense that he is a one day opener, but has no business doing it in tests.

yeah but they don't count cause they're shit

Martin Guptill Averages in Test Cricket

vs Australia 17.75
vs Bangladesh 245.00
vs India 24.84
vs Pakistan 27.88
vs South Africa 17.57
vs Sri Lanka 18.00
vs West Indies 69.25
vs Zimbabwe 53.33
Maybe we should be using guptill to assess test eligibility? if he averages more than 50 against you, you don't make the grade.

Says a lot about the windies.

Oh and totally agree on t20 assessment.

Well the thing about selecting first class performers in T20 isn't entirely suprising. Hesson appears to be behind this and he is a dimwit of the highest order.

I don't know of any other international coach that likes to make 5 or 6 changes to a batting order to maintain a left/right combination. Dropping guys like Taylor down to 6 or 7 to keep it going haha. Every top team in the world is built around clearly defined roles - while this idiot tries to play things helter skelter.

King Kallis knocks over the 13K milestone, he could move to 2nd in all time test run scorers during this match. This partnership is doing things just as easily as the last partnership did.
Still a long time left in the day let alone the match

Serious changes are needed for the England series.

What would Kiwi fans think of:

1-Rutherford
2-Watling
3-McCullum*
4-Williamson
5-Munro
6-Brownlie/Taylor if available, moving up to 4.
7-Ronchi+
8-Vettori
9-Bracewell
10-Boult
11-Martin

Need to put more depth in the batting quite badly.

New Zealand could always do what England did and take a bunch of South Africans and use them to form the foundations of the team. England did, however, get their own bowlers. But, if you can't, just get some from Pakistan

Take your hand off it, Daniel Flynn definitely deserves to be in the side. Especially this current side.

Yup, nothing says top 6 test batsman like an average of 28 after 41 innings, no hundreds and 6 half centuries (4 of those dismissed for between 50-57 runs). We've got a real keeper in this one.
