I think PR makes some good points . Trying to lure Fringe college Players or NFL rejects ,probably good way to throw money away , for little return. USA has a rugby league competition Probably better to support that , and maybe get more Americans in it. Play a few top games over there to from rep teams here. encourage a viewing audience from over there. And support Pacific Islands , PNG , etc.
USA also has an indoor , quick version of the game , Canadian league, and European league For the fringe players . Why would they come here to try a sport they've never played ? Despite its alledged simplicity ,Like most things ,even the seemingly simple ones You dont get to elite level over night. Coming over here Unlike for Basketball players( who are still on NBA radar,it would take them off NFL radar and remove them from ANY chance of ever getting into NFL. Not sure about pay rates either but a military career for a good athlete over there would possibly be more attractive financially as well.
