He stopped taking his medications -effectively ending his life- when he could no longer do what he loved doing ... singing. He went out on his own terms.
'Mother Love' was Brian May's song, which he sung the guide vocal for initially (whoever wrote a song would sing a vocal as a guide as to how they wanted Freddie to sing it ... or at least as a suggestion!). As he said in that 2-part doco 'Queen: Days Of Our Lives', Freddie kept saying "More. Write me more lines to sing", so Brian kept handing him lines to sing. Freddie never finished the song, so when they came to making the 'Made In Heaven' album, as a tribute to that moment, they never re-recorded the last verse. What you hear vocally is the song as it was when he died: Freddie's incredibly powerful vocals (regardless of the circumstances, but much moreso because of them), followed by Brian's guide vocal final verse.
That doco, by the way, was released on dvd & blueray worldwide on 28th November and is longer than the tv version (the blueray version is longer again than the dvd). I've not seen it in stores yet, however I try and avoid shops at this time of year so if I've not been given it for Chrissy, I'll be heading out to get it in January..!
