Queensland fans whinging about crowds down here = boring.

YOU DON'T HAVE NINE TEAMS IN THE MARKET!

Statistics show that the three-club median average is astronomically higher in Sydney than it is in QLD, a fact being ignored continously.

Mate - to be honest - the QLD fans have a right to be angry. The sport that they are investing their time and money in to become a great spectacle, is being ruined south of the tweed. Its quite plain for all to see.

As for the 9 teams in the market - well done. You've just proved my point.

I've been strongly critical of Sydney's crowds in recent years, so allow me to make a few things clear...

1. That crowd for the test on Friday night was senfarkingsational!!! 34,500+ to an international at the SCG was nothing short of a great effort for the growing international game, particularly after the one-sided scorelines for one off tests in recent years. Well done to all who went!

2. The crowds for some Sydney club games are unacceptable, while others are passable to very decent. It really just depends on the clash - we've seen some shockers already this year, but we've also seen some absolute pearlers.

3. Okay, Brisbane is half the size of Sydney. So, if we were going on percentages alone and had four Brisbane teams in the competition, there's no WAY that the teams would be getting 30k to every match. We too would undoubtedly be looking at closer to 15k for most matches that the non-Broncos teams hosted.

4. Culling, merging or relocating teams in Sydney isn't the answer. Do you think that if the Sharks were killed off or relocated to Perth, the Sharks fans would then simply jump on supporting the Dragons or some other team and attending all of their home games? Pffft, ain't gonna happen.

Better marketing, better price systems, effort and TIME will improve the crowd situation in Sydney. It will just require patience and a concerted effort on behalf of all of those in the administration of the NRL and the clubs. Oh, and not adding ANY more Sydney teams will help, too.

Sure, there are a lot of clubs there. But they are sustainable, not on the brink of collapse and have plenty of room to grow.

:clap: Brilliant and well constructed post mate, well said. Good to see someone without an agenda step in with some fresh ideas.

. Continually I've seen from Queenslanders say "NSW crowds are crap" without actually entering into the reasons why or looking at the chasm of differences between the two cities, namely the fact there's 10 teams v 3.

It's pretty difficult to compare the two states in crowds. There are less teams in Qld. So going by the figures at hand:

* Brisbane (population 1 820 000) gets larger crowds to test matches than Sydney (4 984 000)

* Townsville (143 000) averages better League crowds than Sutherland Shire(215 000)

Doesn't look too bad at Suncorp at the moment, considering that Mum's Day usually makes a noticable impact at all venues. Should be just on or under 30K.

Was 27,400 or so from memory. Not great by Brisbane standard to be honest... I bet that comment will earn the ire of some QLDers.

Not the best, but if that ends up being our worst then that'd be great. Given it was Mum's Day and the usual hit the crowds take, there's a good chance that could be the case.

Re: the NSW/Qld thing - the entire debate is well beyond tiresome in my opinion. Some absolute crud dished up by both sides of the arguement. I find the myth that crowds have "never got back up to the good old days in Sydney" particularly irritating and ignorant.

And it's all a pretty stupid argument anyway given that crowds overall are setting new highs and lifting the base.

Crowds benefit the game as a whole in a number of ways, and each team and area has their own unique set of circumstances to face in order to maximise their live audience. It'd be better to discuss potential strategies for each team or area to be able to reach their potential (which is different for every team), rather than heckle each other along state lines - which to say the least is quite petty, pointless and achieves nothing when talking about something like attendances.

Looks to be about 15-16k at ANZ, hard to tell without seeing the camera side.

Not too bad at all. Keeps today's average over 20K which is great for Mother's Day. We've had some real shockers in recent seasons.
