Crowd figures for the round -

Bris v WT (Suncorp) - 27,864
SGI v Pen (ANZ) - 9032
Bull v Can (ANZ) - 9845
Melb v NQ (OP) - 10,880
War v Manly (MSS) - 7141
New v SR (EAS) - 19,543
Cro v Parra (TS) - 17,547
SS v GC (ANZ) - 9827
Total - 111,679
Average - 13,960

Pretty poor stuff IMO, average would have been dragged down a lot more had it not been for the Bronco's on Friday night. Let's hope we can get some more people through the gates next week, some good games coming up!

On the other hand, great to see the crowds flock back to Shark Park and Newcastle got close to a packed house. It's mainly the ANZ crowds, as well as the Warriors (tends to happen when their sh*t), that is letting us down.

the games at anz have involved out of town teams.

put 2 sydney teams there other than penrith, manly and cronulla and youll get closer to 20,000 in good weather, and maybe more like 30,000 if the form is good

lets be honest dragons vs penrith, dogs vs raiders and souths vs titans is hardly a blockbuster.

do dogs / saints, saints / tigers or souths / tigers and 20,000 plus easy

Couldn't agree more. It would, however, be good to get some bigger crowds for out of town sides. Take the AFL for example, interstate teams such as Fremantle regularly draw 30k in Melbourne. Hopefully one day, our competition will be able to boast such figures!

So Sydney teams can't get a crowd when their playing against out of town teams?

What about the Broncos, Cowboys, Titans, Storm, Raiders, Knights and Warriors? All their home games are against out of town teams. And they usually get good crowds.

look it is straightforward.

If the games on the weekend had of been played at Kogarah Oval, Belmore Oval and the SFS (or if a redfeern oval existed) then they would have had more people attend.

League has always been about the barrier lines of suburbs and districts, they are taking that away from us more with every day.

9,827 at the Souths/Gold Coast match at ANZ Stadium. Do you think that figure sounds about right, or not?

I think it says more that the other games there were fudged over the weekend.......there appeared to be more there last night than at the saints game.

There was surely more people at the game last night than at the Dogs and Dragons games, i think the other 2 games were fudged.

Despite the glaring inaccuracy of putting those three in the same breath as the QLD Clubs and Newcastle in terms of crowds, you fail to understand the level of support enjoyed by Sydney clubs out of the Sydney. We're the basis of this league, had the strongest comp in Australasia for most of the games history here and as a consequence still have strong supporter bases in other centres. Sydney doesn't have the luxury of drawing on fans like out of Sydney clubs do. There's no way the Broncos are bringing 10,000+ to Sydney venues like Manly, Parra, Canterbury, Saints etc* when they play there.

This doesn't detract from the fact that Sydney clubs have a shocking base which needs to be built on.

maybe the answer is 2 conferences.

a sydney conference and the rest.

some clubs just dont get good crowds in sydney. cowboys, storm, warriors, penrith and canberra are all the main examples of that

Out of Sydney club crowds would suffer if they didn't play Sydney clubs too often. Conferencing has the potential to do more harm than good. It's simply a matter of Sydney clubs building a strong foundation.

*Edit* by simply I mean putting in some serious hard yards...

maybe?

i just though the non sydney clubs would get good crowds regardless and by sydney teams playing each other youd maximise the crowds

eg sydney conference

tigers, manly, parra, souths, easts, saints, bulldogs, sharks

rest - titans, broncos, cowboys, raiders, NZ, storm, knights, penrith

i dont think either would have problems with the crowds.

The Broncos would lose sh*tloads.

Last weeks game between St George-Illwarra and Penrith at Homebush drew 9032

Let's compare this with previous years at suburban grounds:
2007: 9057 @ Kogarah (Round 8)
2006: 12098 @ Wollongong (Round 2)
2005: 12932 @ Wollongong (Round 10)

So when these two sides played in Kogarah last year the crowd was the same as they got at ANZ. It was slightly higher when played in Wollogong earlier in the year
