The only time I really get sh*tty at NSW crowds is come origin time. I still don't understand how it doesn't sell out every game. I know ANZ is bigger than suncorp and the viewing lines are rubbish, but there is no excuse that 80k should not turn up. I don't know why Suncorp wasn't built to hold 65-75k, maybe something to do with the stadiums location and suburbia/businesses on it's doorstep, but I am sure if we did have that size a stadia in Brissy it would still sell out for Origin (obviously not in the 1 hour timeframe that it does now),I really don't think there would be a problem.

The fact is that origin means more to Qland than to NSW. It gives a state which is seen as provincial a chance to measure itself against the Big City. That is why there is a difference.

The real problem with Origin is not ANZ attendances but how the Origin negatively impacts on NRL attendances many of which are embarrassingly awfully small at the time.

The fact that 65-75k periodically turn up to Origin in Sydney is testament to the support in Sydney - it's fantastic. Only MAJOR prelim finals and the GF come close.

yet many NSW fans I hear says the opposite, that it means just as much to them as it does to a QLD'er.......

It means a lot to NSW fans, there's no doubt about it.

I'm sure it does, I don't question that one bit. I just replying to old mates opinion that QLD'ers show more passion about origin, I don't think that we do, but that's just me.I just think per head more people up here want to go to the game, I hated going to origins in Sydney, both that I have been too were rubbish weather (the first game at ANZ it p!ssed down all night) so it might have something to do with Brissy's better climate, I don't know I am just throwing $hit out there.

I think both states show plenty of passion but QLDers thrive on it more.

It absolutely pissed down for the corresponding Bulldogs-Rabbitohs game last year. I think they got around the 22k mark.

The weather doesn't seem as bad today, but there is rain around.

I reckon 25-28k.

I think you've missed the context of the discussion. The "excuses" which you've tried to lay into me for were in response to a claim that Saturday 3pm was a viable timeslot. It wasn't 5 years ago when they dumped it in favour of the 5:30-7:30 Super Saturday arrangement and it just as likely won't be now.

I already responded to the fact crowd numbers are down - in 2005 they weren't setting the world on fire after four rounds either. This year the crowds have been consistent and while there's been a couple of ordinary ones, there's been no four-figure crowds and that is testament to the membership drive's success.

Your point about trains is a good one though - it needs to be easier to get to games in Sydney. Part of the AFL's success has come through centralising of stadia for Melbourne clubs in having all play out of either Etihad or MCG - both of which are impeccably serviced by public transport. No stadia in Sydney are - the two major ones (SFS and ANZ) require a change and another train or bus before even getting near the grounds.

I suppose it's easy to bag somewhere you don't understand though.

I live only 7km from etihad stadium (in st kilda) and for fridays game had to take two seperate trams. The journey took me an hour. Loads of people i know had to change trains for the graveyard. Hardly a perfect public transport arrangement, but like you say its easy to bag something you know nothing about!

If people in sydney wont change train then the options i suppose are (1) improve public transport and centralise games lile you say, or (2) improve the entertainment and value at the games so that people dont mind changing trains to get there. An example is the 20/20 cricket that got amazing crowds this year all of a sudden. A big part of that was that it was promoted really well and there was loads of entertainment at the game.

Not bad, still no crowds under 10k and off to a good start, if we can get the smaller crowds up over 10k each week, that'll make a massive difference in the long run as we'll still get the bigger crowds when certain teams are firering.

Good this week that we are averaging about 17k from a good spread of high crowds, not just one amssive crowd in Brisbane.

30k a chance Moffo? Will be a late walk up from the Easter Show.

Saw the cross to Andy Raymond and the Bulldogs 'away' members area seemed PACKED.
