Storm and Sharks NSW Cup teams merged. Most of the Storm NSW Cup players were not signed due to the NRL sides salary cap restraints.

These players are now Cronulla Sharks players.

Does that mean the Storm will be splitting their 2nd tier players between East Tigers and Cronulla?

No.

The 'merger' is essentially Melbourne giving all their unsigned NSW Cup players to Cronulla.

Storm only have enough room in the cap for their top 25 players. Whoever isn't in the Storm NRL squad will be playing for Easts Tigers. The players at the Sharks who were Storm NSW Cup players no longer have any link to the Storm as they are now contracted to Cronulla.

I think that players originally from Sydney would play for Cronulla and Queenslanders and the rest would be likely to play for Easts Tigers.

that seems intetionally confusing why would a club send its reserve grade/excess players into a side which already has a competing nrl side feeding into it. they better sort something out soon pre-season training starts soon

Seems the latest is

Cronulla - Melbourne merger playing as the Cronulla Sharks - in purple jersies ?

Shellharbour - with Canberra / St Merge players

What a f**ken joke… The sooner the NSWRL merkins have zero power in running the game the better.

Interesting to see nothing announced before the formation of the ARLC

Will we see things change ?

What about this going forward - NSW Cup 2011. All Sydney and Regional NRL clubs to have their own teams, Teams outside State to join or can go joint venture, New teams hoping to join NRL encouraged to join NSW or QLD Cup first - Rd 1 could be something like this Souths vs Newtown (Melbourne), Cronulla vs Canterbury, Manly vs Norths/Central Coast Bears , Canberra vs Illawarra (St George), Wentworthville (Parramatta) vs Windsor (Penrith), Wests (Perth Reds) vs Balmain (Tigers), Central Coast Centurions (Newcastle) vs Easts...Auckland (Warriors) Bye

why have you said that the roosters should have their own side and yet penrith are still aligned with windsor. also how is a team like bears gogn to compete against other sidez when they dont have a nrl players to rely on during the season like the other clubs

I would prefer to see all clubs including Penrith and Parramatta run their own teams just not sure if they can afford to break any current contracts with Wenty and Windsor. The Roosters are one of the richest clubs in the League and provided another joint venture partner could be found for Newtown their should not be any major issues. Agree tough for the Bears (have a current contract with Souths) but if they are serious about joining the NRL in 2013 they should be encouraged to compete at NSW Cup level and show they have the football club in order. Perth Reds on the other hand would benefit from having a joint venture partner as they try to grow the game whilst they are setting up a new football entity.

The New South Wales Rugby League will continue its promise of showcasing first class Rugby League at suburban grounds when the NSW Cup kicks off 2011 with four games at Leichhardt Oval on a Saturday when no NRL games are to be played in Sydney.

The four matches will include a traditional fibros versus silvertails fixture between Western Suburbs and Manly and the main game will feature last year’s premiers, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers.

Round One will then conclude with another four match schedule, this time at Toyota Park, Cronulla.

Following Junior Representative matches between Cronulla and Illawarra, a further two NSW Cup matches featuring North Sydney, the Southern Marlins, Newtown and a new look Cronulla Sharks side which, courtesy of a new partnership, will include representatives from the Melbourne Storm will conclude the day.

With a whole new batch of exciting young talent graduating from this year’s Toyota Cup it will be interesting to see which players are capable of making the step up to open age football.

One club which will benefit from graduates of the NYC will be the Auckland Vulcans. The Junior Warriors side boasted some prestigious talents in Shaun Johnson, Isaac John, Glen Fisiiahi and Bill Tupou and all will be available for the Vulcans in 2011 should they not force their way into Ivan Cleary’s NRL side.

Defending premiers, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, look strong again with the key signings of 2010 top try-scorer Michael Lett, impressive back-rower Grant Millington and Jonathon Wright from Parramatta.

Foundation clubs Newtown, North Sydney, Western Suburbs and Balmain Ryde-Eastwood will again challenge the Bulldogs for top honours while the Central Coast Centurions will look to build on their impressive debut year.

Windsor, Wentworthville, and the Southern Marlins (formerly Shellharbour) will also be out to impress once again with the Wolves proving this year that anything can happen come finals time.

The 2011 season will be run over 26 Rounds with a bye week to coincide with the NSW Cup Representative side’s clash against the QLD Residents, which will be played before State of Origin Game Three in Brisbane.

The NSW Cup draw for 2011 is now on-line and can be viewed by clicking on the following link 2011 NSW Cup Draw however please note kick-off times and venues will be finalised early in the new year when clubs have submitted their final preferences.
