Hi Tuc,

To pick the U18s and U16s NSW sides in any realistic terms you would need to watch every video of every game to get an overview of the games and lets' face it the videos are pretty average . At least that what's I see on the NSWRL site (try highlights).

I have no idea how the selectors do it, maybe an official at every game taking notes on all players.

So really, most people on this site will be pushing their own barrow for their son or team.

That said, from what I have heard or seen Gutherson (Manly) and Zelezniak (Penrith) would be in the mix for the U18s - fullback or winger.

The 'Team of the Week" leave me out of that - how in the hell they put that together is beyon

Idont know why Tyrone Phillips is playing centre ,but at 16 he was the best fulback by a mile ,the young fellow playing fullback for Souths must be good.the winger for Penrith Aiono is pretty good ,clone of the beast ,but may be aligned with NZ

Hi Tuc,

... ... ...

The 'Team of the Week" leave me out of that - how in the hell they put that together is beyond me.

Regards,

M4E,

Here how it was explained to me by someone at the NSWRL.

The first step occurs when the coaching staff of both teams nominate their best 2-3 players from a particular game and then nominate who they believe were the best 2-3 players of the opposition.

The second step occurs when each coach submits the above names to 'RL News'.

The third step is where the names are collated by RL News, whereby a player is selected for Team of the Week when he has been nominated by his own coaching staff and that of the opposition coaching staff.

With regard to how the NSW U/16 and 18 teams are chosen, I can offer this. One, the selections always seem to be politically sensitive and the best players do not always seem to be selected. Two each team will always include a token CRL player (who more often than not turn out to very good players). Finally if you know who you're looking for you will see NSWRL selectors at key games. For example I seen Wayne Portlock, the NSWRL HP officer, out and about over the last couple of weeks!

Regards,
Tuc.

That is my point, you've seen Portlock at "key games". Unless Portlock is able to morph himself and attend the eight/nine games he would be unable to do the selection process justice unless you have video coverage of each game like that at Ch9/Fox. Example, a player in a lesser side at a 'non-key" game/s might be having a great season but doesn't get sighted.

But I suppose that's been the selection process since before my time. The old adage: "It is not what you know, but who you know" - politics, hey.

Regards,

Don't let me start on the unprofessionalism of the NSWRL.:x

LMAO@M4E.

You need to calm down there my friend! Portlock is not the only selector in the NSWRL. There are others.

I will also note that the above mentioned person attended the Doggies v Bears games. One would have hardly called this a key game given the teams.

Better still have a look at last years teams. All were fairly well representative of all of the teams. Even some of the lower ranking teams got a player into the NSW teams.

Clubs will often let selectors know when they have a gifted player that deserves a look in, so don't despair!

Tuc.

Wayne at a Bears game has me worried. Maybe, the cuddlies will make up the majority of both teams.:sarcasm:

HM - Tips
Souths to beat Parra- but if parra play good footy they are capable. Thats if they have stopped the silly mistakes.
West to beat Saints - Saints look to be fragile, west are rested
Penrith to beat Tigers - Penny Panthers will show their class and I think will dominate
Canterbury have had change of attitude. But with the inclusions of Tavita and Siona I think the Knights will win .

Good luck to those teams.

Tuc,
I am sure you think you know what you are talking about but having an easy run doesn't mean you aren't capable of performing. All teams make mistakes and sometimes refereeing also has an affect on results. I have watched all of Balmain's Matts games and your asessment of them is completely wrong and this will be confirmed after they win their fist Semi.[-X[-X

Scorcher,

Having looked at your predictions above I have quoted you from an earlier post and given emphasis to part of your last sentence in that earlier post. LMAO! What's the deal mate?

Tuc

Parra over Souths

Penrith over Balmain
Newcastle over Doggies

How about that for going out on a limb!

Regards,
Tuc

PS: by the way I think your boy should again attend the U/16 NSWCCC Rugby Union trials this year! He did really well last year at the NSW All Schools in the CCC team (especially for the time he was given on the field). I think if he had of been there in the semi-final against NSWCHS they would have won!

Son?????

but I know who you mean; been advised he is carrying injury from the Central Coast game (3 weeks ago) and is only a 50% chance of taking the field this w/e.:(

Yeah, he was treated poorly by the CCC coach/management after being selected as the starting half in the squad. One half of footie in the final game against CAS (and that only happened because it was demanded by the NSW selectors). The excuse to him from team management was 'you are only 15 and will can have another shot next year, where this is it for other bloke (reserve half)'. Well, if he decides to go back this year (he did train for a while with JGS, until the Matts trials and games commenced) they will see a young man about 8-10 cms taller, 10 kgs heavier and faster then last year which included a gold medal in 4*100ms relay at the CCC Athletics championships.

Oh yeah, politics in sport; gotta luv it.:?
