My Order of preference for fullbacks:

Stewart
Hayne
Dugan
Morris
Minichello

Stewart is good don't get me wrong, I think he relies too heavily on other players for opportunities. He can score a try, he does score a lot from kicks and sheer pace, he doesn't really break tackles.

He has lost a yard of pace with his knee issues, doesn't run the ball back with as much gusto as Dugan, so I can't see him being very effective. Safe Yes, Dangerous No.

Hayne is just as effective on the wing so I'd have him there

Dugan is a bit like of Mini 7-8 years ago in the way that he breaks tackles.
Mini was a real thorn in the side for QLD at his best and I think Dugan can do a similar job.
As for Morris you only need to go back to last Friday for that answer.
Mini isn't the player he was.

Mark Geyer has mentioned Josh Reynolds as a bolter seeing as Gidley is out.

Firstly, Reynolds > Gidley

Second...probably about a year away from serious consideration

For being on debut he was a gun for NSW.

What made him a gun I wonder, was it the way he constantly got in the way of the backline? Or how he was a non factor as the last defender? Or the sitter he spilt? Or just the general error count? What was it 5 or 6?

To say he was a gun is lol. All Hayne's 13 games have been better than Dugan's 1.

But besides what was a forgettable debut, his shoulder is f**ked, he's barely had any game time and he was f**ked off his feet after 20 minutes on Sunday.

If he was fit he could slot into the wing on a sane team to keep B.Moz away, otherwise it's just rampant fanboy bullshit that has him in contention, Stickhead being the prime offender.

Reynolds still carries the same issues from his NSW Cup days in that he is very easy to niggle off his game and he has a weak inside shoulder in defence against a shifting line

Dugans shoulder is a big concern for me. Im not convinced he cant bugger it up more and that is wont effect his game

Where were his 5 errors ? The sitter was a grubber early in the game that bounced unkindly with the QLD pack bearing down.
As for Hayne you have a short memory about his debut he had the definition of a mixed bag, scored a brilliant try then had a massive brain explosion when he tapped the ball back in for a Lockyer try.

You are an absolute tool if you call his debut anything less than solid.
Hayne has experience on the wing Dugan does not, why would you switch them?

Take a look in the mirror that is a rampant fan boy if ever there was one.

It certainly didn't look flash, but at least being at fullback you would think he wouldn't have to make more than say 10 tackles in the game and maybe only a couple 1 on 1. He is under as much of an injury cloud as any of the other contenders. Except for BMoz & Mini, who I don't think should be there.

Does anyone consider defensive organisation in a fullback? I guess it's hard to measure. Stewart has been the fullback for a side that consistently has top defence when he plays. Can't be a coincidence. Dugan & Hayne marshal defensive lines that consistently leak points. Very hard to judge, and why it probably doesn't get considered too often.

I'd pick Stewart, but I'm not going to lie; I am very biased.

Based on injuries and form so far, I'd love to see:

1. Brett Stewart - IMO he's the best of the players with limited game time this season and would be the safest option
2. Blake Ferguson - A risky selection, but he is a freakish player who can come up with some big plays. He and Michael Jennings would be extremely hard to handle down the left side IMO.
3. Michael Jennings - In great form this season, and was our most dangerous attacking player last year in Game 1
4. Jarryd Hayne - We haven't got any decent specialist right centres available, and IMO Hayne would do a far better job at right centre then Morris or Lawrence. He's a must pick player, and this is the hardest position to fill with a decent quality player
5. Akuila Uate - Easiest selection of the backline.
6. Todd Carney - Easily the best #6 available for NSW. If he had any smarts off the footy field he would probably have 10+ Origin jerseys under his belt and be an automatic selection by now
7. Mitchell Pearce - No standout halves for NSW. Has a combination with Carney, and looked good in patches in City vs Country. Halfback is our biggest weakness.
8. Paul Gallen (c) - IMO he's just perfectly suited to the front row. His workrate, attitude, strength and way he plays the game just do more for his team as a front rower then a lock. Plus he's our only player that can be relied on to make good metres up the middle.
9. Ryan Hinchcliffe - Bedsy and Ennis are carrying injuries, and IMO both would be a mistake to select if fully fit as neither has much of a future in Origin. Bedsy being too old, and Ennis is just shit. Hinchcliffe is tough and plays for the only undefeated team in the competition. He also plays alongside the majority of the QLD spine and would know their games better then anyone.
10. James Tamou - Was good for Australia and that pretty much puts him ahead of the other front row candidates for Origin. Except of course for Paul Gallen.
11. Greg Bird - I don't care what his club form is like... he always lifts for NSW and running down the left side of the field with Jennings and Ferguson they would be genuinely dangerous in attack even with a dodgy halfback like Pearce.
12. Anthony Watmough - Like Greg Bird and Jarryd Hayne, he is one of the few players we can ignore club and select for NSW. He has been a beast for us many times in the past and the combination of Watmough, Hayne and Uate gives us a strong and aggressive right side IMO.
13. Luke Lewis - Has really started to show his worth in rep games and ontop of being one of the best (if not the best) lock forwards in the game, he has the added bonus of being able to play almost anywhere and still doing a great job.

14. Tom Learoyd-Lahrs - Has been good for NSW in the past. I think he can be relied upon to lift his game for us. Can play in the front row or second row, and hopefully rewarding him for his previous form for NSW gives him the confidence to fire for us again.
15. Tariq Sims - He's an absolute beast and I can't wait to see what he can do if he fires up in the sky blue jersey. He's still only young and will have a long Origin career.
16. Tony Williams - One of the best players in the game at breaking tackles, and assuming he has kept up his fitness would be an amazing impact player for NSW.
17. Robbie Farah - His form at the moment isn't the best, but he's a quality player and if we give him a decent chance he can no doubt prove that to us. I've got him on the bench in the hopes of him being able to come on and have a Craig Wing effect. Depending on how Hinchcliffe is playing, we either sub him off or shift him to lock. I would like to see us with both on the field for atleast a little bit.

Hayne at centre would be a disaster for mine.

Someone with such a poor work ethic defending in the hardest slot on the park in one of the biggest games

I have to say Hayne played in sides from 2007-09 and when he moved to fullback he team improved in attack and defence but he has played in sides that have struggled in the past 3 years. IMO Stewart is the best fullback NSW have, his positioning and support play is up there with Slater but it looks unlikely he will get picked because of his dodgy knee (not that I agree with it) so I would go with Hayne.

For game 1 maybe Merrin over T - Rexx for fitness etc and the two prop bench

Mini is the best 100% well fullback. Keep him on. Hayne to centre which allows you to leave out Lawrence and the Morris brothers, bring in Ferguson, Uate other wing, Carney, Pearce and thats our backline. The forwards pick themselves more or less if fit, except for the reserve utility which is now anbodys guess.
