This is something I've never understood, in the couple of years since the on-field strip has been printed rather than embroided... that fans continue to purchase the embroided versions which are no longer true replicas.
I'm not fussed either way but I think the fans should be able to buy exactly what the players wear if they so desire.
Maybe the NBA have it right:
An "authentic" or on court variant goes for about $300 (probably cost $10 to manufacturebut they gotta pay LeBron somehow.
A "swingman" which is basically like our current supporters jerseys for about $70-100. Same cut as authentic just with slightly lower quality materials but still quite adequate.
A "replica" a cheaper variation in a standard cut for about $35-50. Kinda like our best and less jerseys. different fabrics, different cut but simial look.
At the moment we can't buy the exact on field jersey with the same fabric, cut and grip stuff. We get something between and NBA swingman and authentic instead. As far as i know the only way to get a players cut is via charity auctions or having a dodgy mate at the clubs or manufacturers causing one to fall off the back of the truck.
I personally like the look of embroidered logos, it makes them look a lot classier and important. otherwise the logos end up looking equal to the sponsors.
