2013 Memberships

All clubs should stay but souffs. They've contributed nothing to the game for over 40 years. We didn't miss them when they weren't in the comp, so naturally they should go again.

Perth has to be brought in to make the comp truly "national".

The game needs an injection/excitement around it. Everyone was pumped when Melbourne and Gold Coast joined. Perth would bring that excitement back.

Kick out souffs, and bring in two or three teams at once.

Perth, second Brisbane, Central Coast.

Fire, why are you so mean?

Not really. Big membership clubs are bringing in $10mill+ in membership fees. Corporate sponsorship would be way less than half that in most clubs.

Where'd you pull that number from?

Even if a club had 30k members (which if I'm correct no club has reached) that'd be an average of $333 per member...

More realistically half that and that would just be revenue not profit.

I'd actually be really interested to see what kind of profit margins are in memberships for clubs.

It is easier to get lucrative sponsorships if you have a huge membership base to advertise/sell to.

Shows the marketing department at corporations that they have rusted on fans willing to support a company that supports THEIR club.

If you were a CEO and you wanted to become a Platinum sponsor of a RL club, would you rather have a starting fan base of 25k or 4k that see your companies name on the letterhead/emails going out to every member numerous times throughout the season?

Based on that, Centrelink would be a logical major sponsor for Souths, or a syringe manufacturer.

Never said profit, said income. Figures based on afl clubs that have 40k members and incomes of $14mill from it. Last year WC Eagles took $14.87mill in revenue from memberships. The notion that memberships are not potentially the biggest earner for a club is what we are discussing. NRL clubs on half that ie around 20k would get more revenue from memberships than either sponsorship or NRL grant.

I know you never said profit, I was just making the case. There's a higher profit percentage in sponsorship than memberships.

Fair enough, I didn't realise you were speaking about the AFL. My mistake.

Anybody any idea what sort of revenue from sponsorships clubs bring in? I know most main sponsorships are worth around $1mill then the co sponsors and the secondary sponsorship levels. I' be surprised if it is much more than $3-4 mill a year for most clubs?

The game wasn't the same without the Rabbitohs, glad their back.

Now just need to find a way of getting the Bears back into it & we'll be set ... Adelaide Bears? Lol

If Souths are at say 22k and they average membership costs say $250

There Membership revenue would be over $5m, more than nrl grant already
