I know NRL clubs have only been pushing memberships for a few years, but what is realistic in say, 5 years time?
Apparently the AFL has around 750,000 members, and are aiming for 1,000,000 by 2018. They have been pushing memberships hard for at least 15 years but these are crazy numbers.
Could NRL memberships total half a million by then?
If there are 300,000 Souths supporters in Sydney why can't they eventually get 50,000 members. Aim for the sky I say.

There are so many 'dormant' supporters at each club. It's going to be a difficult but exciting challenge for the NRL and individual clubs to get them to take their support to the next level.

All Parra members received an email today stating that Parra is now over 16,000. A pretty good increase on last year considering how we are going. The target is still 20k this year which is quite ambitious.

Target is 40k by 2017 from memory. The email mentioned there are over 560,000 eels supporters so there is a big dormant base.

Roosters have the highest membership per average square kilometre of territory

And I can only assume that the Cowboys have the lowest. A back of the envelope calculation taking the Cowboys "territory" (a concept that Sydney fans to think is so important... harking back to/not getting over the suburban competition days I expect) to be the North/Far North/Gulf Country parts of Queensland(*) and that they have 11k members then they have only .02 fans/km^2.

Is there any point to your comment whatsoever? It is clearly going to be higher in high density urban areas. That's a function of location.

(*) The Cowboys’ talent recruitment geographical catchment area of North Queensland [is] from Torres Strait in the north, west to Mt Isa and south to Mackay. http://www.cowboysleagues.com.au/news

Sharks sitting at 9,900 (100 to go to the 10,000 target) according to the facebook page - though the website says 9,883.
