Membership is @ 14,512 today. Puts things in perspective how far we are behind the AFL when they announced that the Freemantle Dockers hit capacity at 45,000 yesterday.

Patersons Stadium is on the verge of being a sellout after Fremantle crashed through the 45,000 members barrier this week - a club record even before starting their 2014 campaign against Collingwood tomorrow night.

Based on the above, it seems that their members are season ticket holders, whereas many of ours are B&G Army members etc and have not paid a premium to attend games.

Fumbleball clubs have a 30 odd year head start when it comes to memberships, we are slowly getting there. If we have a decent season this year we may crack 20k memberships would would be a fantastic result.

Hawthorn 63k members, Collingwood 78k dickheads.

Those numbers are astounding, and simply not achievable short term. Long term a target of 40,000 might be reasonable, but it will take some time.

Victorians had to become members to keep the clubs financial, NSW had Leagues Clubs to back the footy, completely different backgrounds.

They have always been desperate to recruit members, when my family migrated to Perth in the late 60s the WANFL ran nights once a week at the hostel explaining the game and trying to get the new migrants to sign up.

Always aggressive with a chip on their shoulder that the game was only played in the Southern States, that's why they were prepared to spend squillions to get teams in NSW and Qld

but the AFL memberships don't necessarily give you a reserved seat at a game hey? - the vast majority are just general admission

Richmond Tigers have a package for 3 home games (subject to availability) in GA and thats about it for $85.
Reserved terrace style seating looks like it starts at $340 or so for all home games. I dont know what the split is in their membership numbers but that have just over 50,000 members in total.

Not sure how many of our 14,000+ are STH's either but at least our B&G Army package isnt $85

They are just memberships, not STH.

If Freo played the Weagles and they have 45,000 members each ffs, they cant fit them in the Freo and Subacio stadiums. Capacity is no where near 90K, not to mention there would then be general admission on top of that.

Those stadia in Perth only hold about 45K each if that.

I'm pretty sure Freo play at Subiaco anyway. The ground at Freo looks like Henson Park. They only train there these days.

A game of footy isn't cheap these days. I paid $30 to sit in terrace- had a pie and bottle of water and $40 worse off, glad we won otherwise your paying $40 to feel like crap
