2015 contract situations

If Dane is doing it for family then we are going to be hard to knock back cos there is no way Bennett will pay that. If he knocks us back we should look at Alex Johnston from souths. Bunnies need a miracle to keep him. 575 k in Newy is like 800 k at a Sydney club if you factor cost of living in. I am hoping Hagan is smart enough to make that clear to potential targets. Newy is a very affordable town to live in.

We dont need another outside back even if Gags does leave

We certainly wouldnt be going after established first graders like Alex Johnson

True. I overlooked Sione. My bad. It is the whole bench thing. It doesn't seem right him being there. Are we still going to hope Mamo is our next fullback?

Personally Id prefer to see Gagai make the shift back there and bring Sione into the centres

If Gags leaves, then I see Mamo and Ross fighting it out for the fullback spot, assuming Gids moves on at the end of 2015

I'm not sold on Gags being a good fullback option if he were to stay. I only remember him playing one game at the back in FG and it was pretty horrific. The whole side was that day but I remember being shocked that he was a junior fullback because he couldn't seem to read one bounce of the ball.

I'd worry about him back there getting rag doll'ed around on kick returns. I know he played there as a junior but it'd be much easier against other kids than it would be running back at the big blokes given his general size (or lack there of). Defensive lines are also so good these days I think he'd struggle to beat anyone...but then again his job may be easier with the interchanges dropping.

Realistically all of our fullback options are far from perfect. Saying that though given how much of our cap is wrapped up in outside backs I think we'd be foolish to go out and try and buy one.

If Gagai goes I could see Gidley potentially staying on but that isn't ideal either given his age and injury history. Then we'd be back to hoping Mamo/Ross step up anyway. If Gagai stays I think Sione will get the gig (maybe part of Stone's reasoning for playing him from the bench at the moment) but he's not a natural there.

Gags has filled in there a few times and played mostly fullback for Redcliffe before he came to Newcastle. I remember the game you are talking about and while he was average, I think he showed the signs of a good FG fullback. He certainly carved them up for Redcliffe

I'll take your word for it mate, I admit I saw very, very little of him pre-Knights.

If gids goes and gagai stays out only option is to move gags to fullback.

If both gagai and gids go I would have Ross at fullback and Sione in the centres.

Fullback is his best position by far.
I was hoping Stone would train him as a fullback during the preseason.
I hope QLD doesn't pick him on the wing, that's his worst position.

2 time NYC team of year playing fullback, Junior Kangaroos fullback.

Trade talk suggests Gagai will join former coach Wayne Bennett at the Broncos next season, but Fittler told SportsFan that there would be plenty of clubs interested in securing his services.

"I remember watching him play for the Junior Kangaroos and he was the star," Fittler said. "There was no doubt he had the talent and you can just see it coming to fruition now.

"Strike centres are invaluable at the moment, they do so much to the mindset of defences, they make them spread a little bit further which makes it easier for everybody else.

"At the moment he would be red hot."

He'd be far from a star at fullback in the NRL. Stop banging on about it. If he goes to Brissy he'll play centre.

Eels are apparently after Scott too.

Can add them to the clubs that don't seem to use a salary cap.

I disagree mate, he would make a really good FG fullback given what I have seen of him. Great footwork, can spy a gap and can set up his outside men

I think too much is made of his so called "lack of size/strength" because he has shown he can bust tackles and make metres. In broken play he would be even better.

Its not much of a stretchy to see him playing centre IF he does go to Brissy, they do have 1000 fullbacks already, but it is the position I think he is best suited for

lol How so? They have a couple of high paid players along with some real bargin basement guys. I really cant see how they, of all clubs, are rorting the cap

The Eels, like the Titans, will need to get the best out of their young guys in the years to come considering the dough they have blown on some big name halves. Its doable but tough to manage

They've just signed Foran on a massive contract in addition to the likes of Watmough who was already on a lot of money (nearly a mil). They're wanting to re-sign Sandow, Hoppa, etc who are also on large contracts and are in the market for Johnston, Scott and SKD...none of which would be offered small money if they're past recruitment is anything to go by. Just seems like a hell of a lot of money on a few players when you need to pay for a whole squad and the basic contract is worth much more these days. I know they've lost Hayne but I can't imagine he would have been on much, if any more than Foran's contract.

I don't think they're rorting the cap. But there's no way their recruitment plan consists of a 6.3 million dollar salary cap. The third party money at the moment is a bit of a joke. Hey, more power to the clubs that can use it but I don't see much point in having a cap in the current environment.

I guess we'll see, but doubt it.

Given Beau's reluctance to speak about his contract and him basically blanking the media on the subject the speculation will persist. The media does this. They offer up a rumour as bait and if it doesn't bite they add another one and so on and so on. They are trying to disrupt this club's momentum. We are a very real threat to the title this year and if we can fly under the radar anything is possible. A win over the Broncos is what I want most.

Huh.. There you go, Well It's great news if we do re-sign him, he is quality no doubt and what a great feeling to out score Bennett and the Broncos!!

Just continues that struggle with Sione. Where to put him. Center is is best position, I haven't seen enough of Gags at fullback to climb on that train and Mamo may be too small for it. Either way a good position for Knights to be in and congrats to club if he does re-sign.
