This is the same Mamo who is behind Nathan Ross in the NSW Cup fullback pecking order?

Just because he's playing on the wing doesn't mean he's not a better fullback than gidley. Mamos playing style is similar to billy slater, built around explosive speed, great instincts and support play. His start to the season at fullback in NYC last year was sensational.

For the record, I'd rate nathan Ross a better fullback than gidley too

He can have all of the physical attributes in the world and speed but that is no use to you if you have problems with your hands. Doesn't appear to have improved this year at this stage.

Send Gids off to England, let Gagai go to Brisbane if he wants, sign Mamo and Sione long term.

Future of the clubs backline right there.

For me it's got absolutely nothing to do with how Brisbane might be performing, but more that during the past 3 seasons it became harder and harder to ignore the fact that Gagai simply doesn't suit the style of footy Bennett coaches. When Gagai came to the club in 2012 before Bennett had been able to get us to play his style Gagai was absolutely sensational. However the more we took on Bennett's style the more Gagai went into his shell. The moment we stopped it with the Bennett Ball last year Gagai started killing it again. I don't think that's a coinicidence.

When I've said I think it would be a shame if we went back there it's got nothing to do with us missing him (we have more than enough talent to replace him) nor is it predicting how the Broncos may perform. It's just I think it's a shame because I don't think we'll ever see Gagai's best playing under Bennett. That's not a slight at Bennett at all, but simply some players games don't suit the style some coaches like their sides to play.

If Gagai thinks that being back with Wayne and his family will bring out the best in him then that's the decision he needs to make. I wish him the best of luck. I've got nothing against him at all. He had the decency to see out his contract and has always been great with the club and fans (unlike Boyd). I just have seriously concerns that we'll ever see his best under Bennett's style as the last 3 seasons have shown us he shines when we go away from that style.

On what we saw last week I have to agree 100%. As we all know, it was only 1 game but quite a few players looked a hell of a lot better in that one game than they ever did under Bennett. Spose we'll see if it lasts soon enough.

We need to as a business make the tough calls. Get it sorted. If he wants to go, let him go as early as possible and sign up the guys who wanna stay and give them game time.

Mamo has speed from God. i don't care what anyone else thinks on this but losing him would be criminal. He will be something special. His pace you would take a gamble on any day of the week cos he has the greatest asset this game can give to a player in terms of dominance.

In two minds about Mamo. I think some here over-rate him. If he was 3 inches taller and 10kg heavier he would be a superstar, but his lack of size concerns me.

The lack of size thing is a myth

Jake Mamo
Height 177 cm (5 ft 10 in)
Weight 85 kg (13 st 5 lb)

Darren Lockyer
Height 178 cm (5 ft 10 in)[1]
Weight 84 kg (13 st 3 lb)[1]

Billy slater
Height 178 cm (5 ft 10 in)
Weight 89 kg (196 lb)

Robbie o'davis
Height 175 cm (5 ft 9 in)
Weight 80 kg (12 st 8 lb)

Sam Tomkins
Height 180 cm (5 ft 11 in)[2]
Weight 83 kg (13 st 1 lb)[2]

Matt Bowen
Height 175 cm (5 ft 9 in)
Weight 84 kg (13 st 3 lb)

Ben barba
Height 174 cm (5 ft 9 in)[2]
Weight 90 kg (14 st 2 lb)

Anthony Milford
Height 178 cm (5 ft 10 in)
Weight 85 kg (13 st 5 lb)

Rhys wesser
Height 175 cm (5 ft 9 in)
Weight 86 kg (13 st 8 lb)

William zillman
Height 180 cm (5 ft 11 in)
Weight 89 kg (14 st 0 lb)

Kevin Locke
Height 175 cm (5 ft 9 in)
Weight 87 kg (13 st 10 lb)

Preston Campbell
Height 167 cm (5 ft 6 in)
Weight 73 kg (11 st 7 lb)

And finally...

Kurt gidley
Height 178 cm (5 ft 10 in)
Weight 86 kg (13 st 8 lb)

I think I've proven my point that the argument against Mamo being undersized is nonsense. The only thing holding Mamo out of first grade is gidley.

A lot of those heights are surprising. For instance if someone told me that O'davis is only 3cm shorter than Gidley I would have said they're cracking jokes. The same goes for MAtty Bowen being only 3cm shorter than Lockyer.

I don't see all that much on Mamo that makes me think he will be a great fullback. He is fast with good footwork but he doesn't show much ball play or defensive nouse, at least from what I've seen of him in NYC

All of his strong traits are more transferable to wing

This is what I was getting at - all of those "undersized" players (bar perhaps Zillman, Locke and a few other nuffys) are ballplayers. Mamo isn't.

My thoughts exactly. Im concerned that he may turn out being another Shannon Mcdonall for us. Mcdonall was fast safe a good support player however he offered nothing when it came to try assists.

Mamo doesn't even have safe on his resume, although he's definitely more evasive than Junior Burger. I certainly have my doubts, although he does have the raw attributes to be quite an explosive player. There's a lot of work to be done there, and you never know how any given player is going to go as far as adding new strings to his bow. Mamos value to us increases substantially if Gagai is confirmed as going, but I'm not convinced that is the case yet, either. The more good, attractive footy we play (and win) between now and Gags making his decision, the better chance of keeping him I reckon.

The main weapons we have in retaining Gags at the moment will be the football we play, and how bonded the team is. Brisbane continuing to play boring as f**k (and hopefully losing some more) will help, too. Then it just comes down to how persuasive Stoney and Hages can be in highlighting these things to him.

Ultimately the Bennett pull could be just too strong for us to compete with, though. Brisbane will dig up a bigger offer than us, almost doubtlessly... and Bennet has very tight ties to the Gagai family.

Mamo was excellent when he was at fullback today.

I know it's only NSW Cup but there are certainly signs there that if he keeps developing he could become a great FG fullback. Ross was good too.

Might be a plus for Gagai staying that Hagan is now with the Club. Gagai has made it no secret that he wants to play SOO.
