You're dreaming, I was at the game yesterday. Roosters had maybe 2 full bays in the whole stadium yesterday. Given that there was still a few of their supporters were scattered around the stadium 2 and 1/2 to maybe 3 full bays = about 3-4K of Supporters all up.

If they brought in 7-10K then they would have had a fair chunk of the Eastern stand and that wasnt the case at all.

The only time the Roosters brought 10-15K of their supporters to ANZ was for the final game of 2013 where they played for the minor premiership.

Jesus really? That is beyond a joke. Given how terrible the view from the corners and behind the posts are at ANZ as well they are really screwing people out of going to games with pricing like that.

$70 a ticket at the gates...enough said...

Also 4.00 pm on a Sunday. Gee what great timing. Wait till mid-winter. The game will be finishing well after sun down. Just what you need to get the crowds in. Let alone the fun of getting home if you travel by public transport. In Sydney after 6.00 pm, public transport becomes a virtual ghost, and in some areas of Sydney, buses cease running after 6pm. So have fun getting home.

Yes I am pessimistic because I don't see it changing. Until we stop pandering to the code's TV broadcasters nothing will change regarding crowds.

I was there yesterday and thought there was definitely 7-8k Roosters...same as normal when we play there apart from the odd exception.

BTW, I paid about $65 for 5 tickets. There is value available if you're willing to sit in GA.

I know that is why the Sunday game was moved to 4.00 pm. It was only give the TV broadcasters what they wanted and stuff the people who wanted to actually go to the game. I may be a lone voice but I wrote to the NRL when it was announced and said it was a bad idea for the reasons I listed above.

The NRL only seem to care about appeasing the TV networks and stuff everyone else.

The NRL can not win...How many times did people complain about the television coverage on Sundays being interupted by adverts... They change it and people now complain that the crowds are now affected...
THe worst coverage of a game is now the 2nd game on a Friday night, lots of adverts and its finishing time is getting close to midnight.

I agree about the TV issue. It would be great if we could have games scheduled at the same time - both broadcast live, but into different areas. Having a broadcast blackout of a game in the local area, unless sold out, would be help increase crowds significantly.

In theory sounds a great idea bit in practise it would be something different. Since very few if any Sydney games sell out, C9 and Fox Sports would never be able to broadcast a Sydney game live in to that city. I can just imagine the uproar from fans and networks.

Two problems created the late finish to yesterdays game.

The first was that the match did not actually kick off til 4.10pm. With nines coverage starting at 3.30pm their is no reason why the game shouldn't start at 4pm.

The second being with so many stoppages in the game, usually caused because the ref needed video help in deciding tries, the game from kick off to fulltime went pretty close to 1hr and 55 minutes. Which is way too long for game of football. Their was a few games last season that had a similar problem. What made the length of the game easier to take was the quality of the match.

Soon as I heard it I knew it would be the case. Most of the people complaining were those who never go to the game anyway and can never be bothered to, or were News Ltd press just wanting something to beat the NRL over the head with.

Moving the game to 4pm just to fit in with Channel 9 just made a bad decision worse in my book. They are the only people who benefit. The ones who are most adversely effected, those who go to the game.

And therein lies the reason why crowds are so poor.
It is not "our" game anymore.It is the broadcasters.They determine who plays when,they influence the rules by their agendas.A faster game at all costs.Change rules too speed up the game,and yet want the video ref to check every try.
Constant tinkering with the rules and their interpretations.
Fans just don't feel like it is their game anymore.

Yes, the games have been going longer not just with the clock stopping after scoring in the last 5 minutes of the game, but also the increase in the number of stoppages in the game in general.

Last year's game between Newcastle and Penrith went 2hrs (from kickoff to fulltime).

Don't forget that Tigers fans also had reciprocal rights to that game which probably boosted the crowd numbers by 4-5K

I thought it looked like more than 11,000. It's part of the problem with these small suburban grounds, it looks ok so we accept it. Even if it means 1000 more people show at one of the big venues it all adds up numbers wise.

Almost 12K isn't bad for 2 average teams on a Monday night.

It's not too bad, but it's not great. They are two of the heaviest supported teams in Sydney. Having said that I fully accept that Mondays are poison for crowds.

4 merged entities.Wests"heartland",30 minutes from Wollongong,30 minutes from Saints heartland,40 minutes from Tigertown and they can't get 12,000.
If this is acceptable then the NRL crowd target numbers are not achievable.
