You can argue semantics til you're blue or maroon in the face.

Ticket prices were reduced and free tickets given away for QLD's dead rubber in 2014 and NSW's dead rubber in 2016.

50,100 still went to Suncorp and 61,200 still went to ANZ for matches that meant nothing. Fair effort IMO.

Haha that's not a source. For that origin 3 in 2014, they reduced tickets behind the posts from 220 to 125.....

Not 478 to 50.

I think you've somehow missed the point. I don't give a shit about origin. It's a silly T.V. product targeted at casual fans. I especially don't care about the pissing competition between fans of both sides with seemingly lower than average IQs. I've been to a few in both states out of politeness having been invited. I also like having a chuckle at Blues players who fail to step up in the arena. ..that's literally the limit of my care.

Very insightful. You're right, that's not a source but it's enough evidence for me. Based on it, I'm happy to call it a fact that Star Entertainment were giving out freebies to employees for game 3 in 2014. Sorry but I'm not willing to post a link to an old mate who I haven't seen for 10+ years' Facebook wall. That ought to be convenient for you and anyone else who's in denial about origin being a myth.

However you look at it, this has now been a long time coming. The first major price jump was in 2014. 2014 they were lucky because a dead rubber in Qld is far better given the smaller capacity stadium. Given all those circumstances they still had to discount tickets in 2014 for game 3. Last year things fell right into place with a decider but given those circumstances they were still discounting tickets at ANZ.

The NRL calls this the biggest sporting event in Australia and on par with any major event such as the English Premier league but how really is it if they can't sell it out discounting tickets?

Anyone that thinks Melbourne would have had a bigger attendance for this dead rubber is deluded.

Even with all the discounts, free tickets they were still 20k short and we can talk about the weather, the passion of fans or even the fact that this was a dead rubber.

Fact remains that the price for the game isn't right for any half decent seats. If the price was right you would have had 80K last night.

The price was right last night - tickets were discounted and and even free for some.

The interest level is what suffered last night. Dead rubbers aren't as interesting and a 'live' decider

For better or worse, they care more about making money then it selling out. Almost doubling the revenue in 2 years despite having to give away cheap seats for a dead rubber in 2014 shows they are making shit loads more.

Will I pay $250 for great seats? No. Will I pay $55 for shit seats? Not any more. But people do and they are making more money from it. End of the day they would rather make 10m+ extra than sell out a dead rubber.

Good Point. In the end it is all about the MONEY and we are just cash registers to the NRL.

But but I thought their objective was to make money. How can that be when their objective is also to grow a sport? Which one is it? Is their job to grow revenue or grow rugby league?

Wait, they're mutually exclusive now? :joy::joy:
Yes, sometimes they are. And if you don't understand why that might be you don't get it.

Making money might be part of running a sport, but the job is not making money. The job is running a sport. The two things are not the same thing.

f**k there are some dumb merkins on here. And they're all from the circle. Soggy saos must kill brain cells.

Who said they don't need money f**ktard?

But to say they are a business and their job is to make money is just utter shit. Did the old ARL that expanded the comp to 20 teams and saw senior player numbers reach an all-time high run the sport as a business with making money as the top priority? This "rugby league is a business" bullshit is a News Ltd mantra that a lot of deadshit sheep like to bleat but it's crap. The NRL is the governing body of rugby league in this country and therefore are actually a non-profit organisation. Their job is to run and grow the sport. It's clear the current crop of morons don't get that and their circle just follow. As usual.

Why is it that anyone that doesn't subscribe to your train of thought gets lashed with insults?

FYI the NRL isn't the governing body either, the ARLC is. NRL Limited is the business arm of the ARLC responsible for running the Premiership and U20s comp amongst other things...

You can try to be pedantic and play semantics like you usually do to try to cover stupid statements like "they are a business" but the reality is, the NRL is the public face of an organisation whose job it is to run and develop rugby league in this country. It's a non-profit body not some sort of corporation just out to make money. At least that's what it's supposed to be. Maybe you circlers don't get that because of the kool aid and the fact this admin does f**k all to grow the sport but that doesn't change the fact the NRL's job is to grow RL.

If you possessed the capability to debate this without stupid vulgar insults in every post I'd keep going but you're better on an ignore list.:wave::wave:
