Mentioned elsewhere that there will be 5 extra Thursday night games next season, that will help next years crowd growth lol.

Every sport is stagnating though, not just us. Super rugby union crowds have halved since the early 2000's in this country, afl averaged more in 1997 than 2016, A league goes up and down and is back on a downward spiral, we had been hanging onto our crowds quite consistently until this year. We have so many things we could do better though which would all result in a rise in crowds.

yep
attending sport live these days is a burden on the hip pocket
paying $60 a month & watching every bit of sport you want in yr living room is much cheaper

Exactly. It costs $50 just in tickets for me, partner, daughter. That on it's own is a lot for a single income family and more for 1 game than a month of the sport package on foxtel.

But that's like saying you can get iTunes for a fraction of the price of a concert ticket or a take away prepared meal from woolies cheaper than going to a restaurant. The two are not comparable, or shouldn't be if the experience is worth going for.

It matters when you have a budget to consider. Football is a luxury and I weigh up the $$$ very carefully. The 3 of us are ticketed members so we go to as many home games as possible but not away games or neutral.

Cost of living is a major factor in deciding whether one becomes a member, attends regularly, only watches on FTA or has Pay TV.
Sydney's cost of living ,from house prices to rent to food etc is way up there above other states.

You need to have extra spare loot to attend interstate ,NZ and Canberra games. And so much time to write War and Peace again, whilst battling the Sydney traffic to get to an away game ,most of the time.

A more accurate comparison would be:
Hoyts is showing Beauty and the Beast tomorrow at 12.30pm. $58 for an adult and 2 kids. Plus what, another $30 on food and drinks?
Or the Hoyts kiosk down the road has the same film for rent at $2.95. You don't get the full cinema experience but you're watching the same thing on TV for much cheaper.

I know what 9 / 10 families would be picking. Same with footy.

This is misleading IMO. Rugby crowds have went backwards because the sport is essentially dying on this country. Playing numbers, TV viewers and crowds are all dropping.

I also don't think the A league is the best comparison. Soccer is a second rate sport in this country and its crowds reflect that.

The NRL should be compared with sports people actually care about. AFL crowds are stagnate but they're stagnate at a level well above ours. Im also assuming that GWS and the suns would be dragging down the average so the rest of the rams must be up if crowds are stagnate.

The only other big sport is cricket and big bash crowds have exploded in size over the past few years.

But you've just said our main competitor is stagnate

So why should we be different ?

Broncos v storm looking to be around 42-44k.

Big bash crowds are massive. As the competition is on during a period where lots of people are on holidays helps - season is also pretty small.

I haven't actually looked at their crowds closely enough. If you take out the GWS and suns how do their crowds look? Have they stagnated overall or has expanding into unfriendly markets made the average look stagnate.

Regardless there is a difference between having your crowds stagnate around 35K compared to just 16K.

the comment was made that we are stagnate
when someone said so are all sports
you said we should only compare ourselves to sports that are liked & we compete against
the AFL

ahhhhh.... they're stagnate too
so again , if the so called best are not growing either

why would anyone think we should be ?
