Yes I went and watched the Albany classic instead of one of the nrl at nib games last year in protest at the nrl's continuing inaction on expansion. Brilliant weekend.

How successful was your 1 man protest?

Did you email the NRL and told them why aswell?

About 7000 others did the same going on the crowd.
I'd be surprised if the nrl noticed, that would require someone to be looking.

I like this big horn thing the Raiders have. Its a small thing but stuff like that is what clubs need to be thinking about to try to improve game day experience and increase crowds. For example in addition to the Viking clap they could have a sarcastic 'men at work' golf clap for when the opposition have the ball.

The cowboys should have a big arse cowbell (maybe they already do) get the biggest cowbell in Australia or something.
Could the Tigers have a caged tiger (LSU Tigers and Clemson Tigers have one)?
Does anyone have a cannon? The Knights could have a jousting display at half time.

The Knights v Dragons game could be promoted as the Game of Thrones game. Choreograph a battle at half time and have gratuitous tit on display.

They could just pinch a whole bunch of ideas from College Football. Or come to me. Ive got heaps of ideas.

Agreed, you can see how much the crowd enjoys getting into it. Well done Raiders, more day games and they will start to fill the place.

I know most adults hate the Pirates brand but geez if we ever get in it has so much potential to build a game day experience around it.

In College Football, Big Ten conference gets the biggest crowds and they also have the best traditions in the game. Like Wisconsin's "Jump Around", Penn State's "White Out" game (you can Youtube these). Both of these are relatively new traditions that the schools brought in because they wanted to engage the crowd more. There are stacks of these types of traditions built to engage the living hell out of the fan base. Some of the Big Ten schools get 110k per game.

In the ACC conference Clemson Tigers have a tradition where the players run out onto the ground down a big hill at the top of which they first touch this big stone. The tradition behind it isn't worth getting into but its cool stuff like that that see's College Football competing favourably with the NFL.

Most of this stuff would be a bit corny for older Australians, but who cares because it is kids you really want to get dragging the parents to games anyway. Big Bash I think is trying to get these types of things going. NRL should think more about this.

Yeah I agree.

Adding a bit of atmosphere can only help a side like the raiders. I don't see why anyone would be hostile to it. Just don't join in if you don't like it.

We don't have the inherent support of say the knights

It would be cool if they could blow that horn in town a couple hours before the game to summon the supporters.

Today was the first time I seen the Raiders pre game tbh. Looked really good and engaged the fans of all ages, long may it continue. This is what the fan experience is all about, forgot free Wi-Fi and the like its all about generating atmosphere and fan culture.

Just get the people in charge at nrl clubs to attend the BBL. they know how to do it. They have turned a boring as batsht game into a great night out.

It's a struggle to find mention of a crowd figure in here this year. It's all about horn blowers , rain and arguments about whether 430 is a day game.

Have you seen crowds in every other code lately across Australia? they all have been below par because weather has been crap in Syd,Bris,Mel etc. I think the Waratahs played at Allianz yesty and got 11-12k, Sydney FC in the A-League got 11k last game. It's not just the NRL fans not turning up because of the crap weather.

NQ used to have a canon on the field that would get fired after every try (don't know where the 'cowboy' relevance was) that was loud as f**k but added to whole experience. the residents around Kirwan had a bitch though and it only lasted one season.

With the new NQ stadium getting built in the cbd, I really hope we find something to do like the Raiders have done. Sure, they've copied the clap from the soccer mobs and the minnesota vikings with the horn, but who gives a shit, at the end of the day it engages the fans and will more than likely get the tin lids to want to go back which creates a new gen of fan.

Did we ever end up getting a (sourced) official figure for Storm/Broncos or Bulldogs/Warriors
