Could someone explain to me why that game wasnt on tomorrow or Sunday?

Wouldve easily got double.

It just proves how important FoxSports view it as a lead in to the 8pm game. No doubt it’s written into the contract that there must be a 6pm game if there are 8 games in the round

20K isn't modest
it would nearly get the NRL into the top 10 attendance averages in world sport

Considering our attendance avg when the strat plan was written was over 16k it wasn’t a big reach to get a 20% increase over 5 years with the riches the game suddenly had.

Not reaching it was poor, actually reducing crowds was shthouse.

Can guarantee it will go something like:

Crowds arent really changing year on year. The new stadiums will make a big difference. It’s a balancing act between tv and fans attending. Nrl will have the biggest revenue this year ever. It’s clubs responsibility to grow their fanbases.

Repeat ad nauseum.
It is up to the clubs to grow their fan bases and increase attendance though. Obviously the demands of the broadcasters are having an impact on the schedule and on teams ability to draw crowds, there's probably a better balance to be found between attendance and viewership but ATM the revenue from tv pays the majority of the bills.
Clubs can look to other sports to better their fan engagement, entice fans from the couch to the grounds, improved stadiums will help but they aren't a silver bullet.
What do you want Greenberg to say? What would you have him do?

It is a massive slap in the face that especially this week there is no Sunday 2pm game..

And they trot out a 6pm Friday game

I mean we can cop it most rounds .. but this Rd ffs

Speaking of Newy. A fair few fans would have went to the soccer tonight which further reduced the attendance for this 6pm game in Sydney. But it's diabolical to expect an out of town team in Newcastle to bring along fans for a 6pm game in Sydney. The 6pm games must be local teams as much as possible. Although Newcastle people don't mind this timeslot in Newcastle as the traveling is less arduous than in Sydney and plenty of families attend this timeslot.

It's a dire f**king time. You'd be lucky to be off Alpha Road coming back from the City for Kick off at that profoundly shit time. The Penn's don't give a shit as long as they can stick it to all those people like Delmege.

Money doesn't equal attendance. and 20% is actually a rather big reach.

Can you think of any major sports league that has achieved that kind of crowd growth in the last five years? Maybe the MLS, but I'd venture that that is it.

Attendance has been on a generally downwards trend in Australasia over the last decade. Even the mighty AFL hasn't seen growth, and the less said about Super Rugby and the A-League the better.

It's all good and well to say ooh it's bad but it's clear no one is magicking up a solution right now no matter how modest you think that kind of growth is. I'm not saying it couldn't be done but it clearly isn't that easy, otherwise it would be happening everywhere.

Has Timmah finally accepted it though? Lol
Que?

You'll find plenty of instances over the past 18 months where I'm happy to concede Friday 6pm is a shit time for footy. I have tried to make the case for it and there *are* instances in which it works but generally it isn't a great time. What I'm over is the same comments about it ad nauseum every time it draws a poor crowd - like the whinging is going to change anything mid-season or even mid-TV deal. Surely the energy is better spent thinking of ways to attract crowds to it rather than heap shit on the NRL and our own game for it, achieving precisely zero.

But you're trying to score personal points on a forum so go on as you will having your lols

not what you said
you said 20K was modest ..... it isn't , & as has been pointed out to you many times , no code has increased their attendances in the last 5 years or even 10 let alone a 20% increase , some have gone backwards by that much
we sabotaged our own plan with a counter productive stupid tv deal , maybe if we hadn't , we'd be the only code that increased our average.& possibly up to the target

Granted. It was wishfull thinking. A poor crowd in the wrong location and timeslot . Friday 6pm works better for regional cities. After the Knights win the crowd for next Friday 6pm will be bigger than 20000 (weather permitting). In Newcastle families are more likely to attend at this timeslot compared to later at night. Not saying 6pm Friday suits most places in Sydney but definitely Newcastle. Perhaps Wollongong, Canberra are realistic options too. The Warriors at home on a Friday night 8pm seems to work well on this night as well (both crowd and tv wise).
