Fantastic crowd and what a great image for the game. Now when do we get back to the narrative that crowds don't matter again?

maybe
or maybe hes a football fan jealous of the success of origin like most of them are
No Victorians are jealous of Origin. There is no NRL v AFL war here. The ‘war’ was created by Sydney journalists. We are all friends here in Victoria. There is no anomostity from AFL fans towards Storm or Origin. Tonight was great for Melbourne and great for RL.

It doesn't matter, not really anyway, it's a matter of accuracy and not underselling the event.

A huge chunk of that crowd wasn't there for or because of Melbourne, they were there for SOO, SOO just happened to be in Melbourne this time. So saying "well done Melbourne" is simply inaccurate when such a large amount of the crowd isn't from Melbourne or there for Melbourne, cause it wasn't Melbournes' doing.

So really what should be said is well done SOO and the people that organised it this year, cause this is SOO success not Melbournes', don't give SOO, those people involved with SOO, and the game at larges achievement to a city and/or some bureaucrats and politicians from that city!

I'm not one for the code wars and all that, but that is just BS...

AFL Jurnos and talking heads (and fans for that matter) are constantly comparing the AFL to NRL looking to aggrandise the AFL and/or deriding the NRL to make a point or deflect from an issue they are facing...

You are so right here.
They just don't do it to the NRL but other sports as well.
Every time an English or European football (soccer) team arrives in Melbourne, they can't wait for the publicity shot of one of their stars holding or kicking a Sherrin "at the G".
It's f**king laughable the lengths they go to for self recognition..

If you actually read his post he's right. f**k what journalists think, most sports fans in Melbourne bear no ill will toward RL or any other code.

He said "the war" was created by Sydney journalists.
Hence, my reply, and further comment in the thread.

great crowd tonight, it really grew after the lights came back on, and I noticed a lot of people came late

also just realised, that will be the largest crowd for the year no matter what as its a couple thousand above ANZs capacity, great to see the game going well down here

Was also very happy with my $40 seats, wasn't sure what to expect for a rectangular sport at the MCG, but it wasn't even that bad, those higher levels are so steep (stairs were a killer)
