Still not getting good are you? A buoyant local derby rivalry promotes enthusiasm and therefore cultural popularity for the code. Without this the code becomes vulnerable. This is what's happening in northern Sydney . The local relevance associated with a genuine local rivalry (Bears & Manly etc) has gone. The locals must search for another fix and union is filling the void.

Ohh... now I get it, the local rivalries!!

That’s how we can fix the crowd figures—
Let’s introduce the Far North Queensland Crocs so the North Queensland Cowboys have a local rival, a new team in Queanbeyan to rival with the Raiders... a second team in Newcastle and Melbourne.

The more teams the better! Stallion’s solution to NRL crowd figures is have multiple teams in every area to develop local rivalries, obviously the 9 teams in Sydney aren’t enough because he wants his Bears back!!

Showing your ignorance.Mathematics might help you? Over 1.2 million people in northern Sydney and only one top flight club to cater for the area. Go figure. Established local rivalries have have far more potency and credibility in the market place than you think. The external clubs you mention would no doubt love a local rivalry (except the greedy ones-Broncos ). However logistics come into the equation for some clubs like the isolated Cowboys. Remembering these clubs have opted to join the "big league " because of the time held and notable Sydney club based rivalries you recklessly don't appreciate.

Forgive me of my ignorance but when did ‘Northern Sydney’ become it’s own city isolated off from the rest of Sydney?

I knew Sydney transport was bad, but what’s stopping someone in Northern Sydney supporting any of the Sydney clubs and making it to games at ANZ and Allianz?

In every other city in the country supporters can converge on a central location to support clubs of their respective codes.

Is Northern Sydney on its own island or a separate city that no one has ever taught me about??

Union isn’t filling the void with a top tier rivalry is it though?
So if we really need a derby in north Sydney why don’t we make manly play a reserve team out of brookvale to go head to head with the bears?

Basically it's regarded as different from Sydney from what I've experienced. When you mention that you reside in the North Shore there is a cultural difference . Not to mention the geographical difference with Pacific highway divide. (which is more psychological but nevertheless a factor ) Does that mean the 1.2 million citizens don't count for top flight rugby league options in northern Sydney?

Not the same. It needs to be top flight and as rugby league has a noted historical /traditional rivalry in a wasteland status atm., This (Bears back with Manly as two rival clubs) would be a positive fix for addressing the weakening of the code in this region.

Gordon is not on the North Shore? News to me

Even moreso. The SHIT SHIELD has perhaps four clubs in northern Sydney? (I'm not a follower but I do acknowledge a threat ) Someone like yourself can't see the damage being done to rugby league. The severing of the well established rugby league local derby between Manly Warringah & North Sydney has expedited a decline in the code in Northern Sydney. You can ignore this but others should not.

Apparently a big crowd building at the Gold Coast stadium for the derby between the Broncos and Titans!

The claim that Rugby Union is prospering at any level in Australia, is next level insanity.

And that it's only just started to improve 2 decades after the removal of one poorly supported team, mentally deranged.

What the expected Titans crowd?

Ignorance again! The crowd will hopefully be approaching 20000 on the Gold Coast.

Despite a warning it's fairly evident none of you can read. Stop the personal feuding, stop talking about union, afl etc. The discussion about Northern Sydney and Sydney rivalries does not belong in this thread. Stop it.

Gotta be the first time since 2008/2009 the Gold Coast has had this sort of crowd. Too bad they're playing like ass.

Disappointing crowd on the Gold Coast, Sunday arvo, school holidays, local derby, should really be min 20k+, even in origin week.

Fair call! Some people predicted half the turn out on the Gold Coast!? But I'm with you. It should be full. Maybe high ticket pricing? Not sure. At least it's a decent crowd but not great.

Sunday arvo and school holidays makes sense in every other market, but in a city that exists almost exclusively as a holiday destination that'd be prime business hours for them, wouldn't it?
