once the novelty of the new western Sydney stadium wears off , & it will
we will be back to where we are now , ANZ will only be marginally better then now & might only improve crowds there marginally
Sydneys problems aren't fixable
media rights deals that we see today will be very different in 20 years time & will not hold the weight they do now
the future is not in having 9 sides in Sydney & the sooner entitled Sydneysiders realise that
the better
The point is,and yes you are right new stadiums become older stadiums and novelty does wear off.
But remember ANZ where the Eels currently plays ,is not their real home base.Parramatta is.No place like home as crowds at local suburban grounds tend to show.
ANZ will at least be rectangular.A Bulldogs side that this year was a disaster from day one with the salary cap issue(thank you former CEO Raelene C and coach Bobby Dazzler)and watching player after player being shunted off to other clubs. If I was one of their fans I' d be right p*ssed off and .,my desire to watch them play at a mausoleum like ANZ would be for me a turnoff.
Getting a settled team next year and beyond and improved performances, cannot see why their crowds would not improve. They have a huge latent fan base. The Tigers given a decent season will attract crowds at rectangular ANZ/Leichhardt and Parra stadium. Not too sure about Cambo.
Sydney's road system and train services can be improved, the F6 when completed will move a lot of crap off other roads to the city.
The biggest problem I seems the housing density allowed in the inner city and surrounds, strangling traffic.I there was a decent direct rather than having to change rail to Homebush,I might get interested. As it is ,only semis and G/F get me there.
I would agree with reducing Sydney teams, if there was no other sporting opposition at hand. The fumbling brigade would love a NRL club to fold or relocate. They sure took advantage of then Bear's denial.
And you are correct .no one has a real clue ,as to what the technologies of the future will do, and Tv deals may well be a lot less, made up for b other means.
But that does not alter the fact Sydney's population is growing not stagnating, and in 10-20 years time,9 teams may well be easily accommodated with bigger crowds as a result and with better stadiums in the outer suburbs. So it's not a simple case of "entitled Sydneysiders".
The Sydneysiders you describe, are responsible in the main for help securing the large TV deal monies.the same monies used to assist the Canberras, etc
NB The team I do worry about ATM is the Sea Eagles. They need better seating/stands,their crowds of late have been about the lowest I can remember.
