2018 Crowd Watch

Who would be happy if there team was gone, but i'd still watch the sport I love.
As stated elsewhere, we have already done our bit so I cant see why the Tigers would be in the firing line. But lets just go with a worst case scenario, the Tigers go broke and are removed from the comp. I'd be devastated, and would probably take a while to get over it (I think it was around 2004 before I started to watch the Wests Tigers). Over time I will realize that its a sport in the end, I cant stand Soccer, AFL or Rugby so I may as well move on and find another team to support. Now for me personally that would be probably easier than most as I live in WA, and chances are we will have a team at this stage.

I think it would be different for me if the club went broke, but having them culled from the competition would probably be the end for me, I have committed to my club, probably spent in excess of $50 000 supporting them over the years. Why would would I move to another team when I have been shown that the commitment is not returned?

Fair call and I agree with everything you say. If we are fair dinkum no financially viable club will be culled, the only way that a team will be relocated or removed is if they are financially troubled and the only team at the moment that is even close to that scenario is Manly. The NRL has already stated that there will be no more St George type bail outs.

Tigers soft relocation should be to Campbeltown full time its such a huge growth area out there, with new houses going up everywhere.
Many of the people buying are new migrants who have no affiliation to any club and a local club should be able to capitalise on that.

I don't think the area is interested in a team

No ,I'm comparing a side, that has been established in the ACT region for 35+ years.A side that had the likes of Meaning,Stuart,Daley,Clyde etc, to establish a firm base of support.

You have an all seater stadium.OK not much under cover, but the likes of Manly would kill for it.

From what I gather. The SFS yesterday was basically all but a few were Rooster's fans.I'm not apologising for Dragon's fans for not attending, all I'm suggesting is now because of traffic issues away fans are only attending home games, as Penrith has shown.
And the crappy oval ANZ is hosting clubs such as Dogs and Eels, who have been tail enders all season.

I'm also suggesting once Parramatta stadium is built and provided Eels gets its act together crowds will pick up.Throw in the Tigers playing there also.
Once ANZ has been reconfigured and decent scheduling involved, they too will improve their crowds.

Sydney is the biggest commercial market, with the biggest NRL TV audiences, regardless of poor crowds means a hell of a lot in TV contracts. No eyeballs, no money.

once the novelty of the new western Sydney stadium wears off , & it will
we will be back to where we are now , ANZ will only be marginally better then now & might only improve crowds there marginally

Sydneys problems aren't fixable
media rights deals that we see today will be very different in 20 years time & will not hold the weight they do now
the future is not in having 9 sides in Sydney & the sooner entitled Sydneysiders realise that
the better

Would they? Have they actually ever achieved that in the regular season in the NRL era?
have we ever hosted another top 4 opponent whilst in the top 4 ourselves in the NRL era ?
only once ...

we got 23,700 in the year 2000 against the Roosters on a freezing sleeting Sunday afternoon in July
they were 3rd , we were 2nd
I was there , it was horrendously cold
turn on ysterdays conditions then , & whateva GIO holds , we would have got

anything else I can help you with ?

You still haven't given a solution, how would you go about lowering the number of teams in
Sydney. If we are using crowds to determine where teams should be it appears that Canberra can not support a team at all. Canberra's average crowd in 2018 is only about 500 more than what they had in 1982, most of the Sydney clubs have doubled their averages in that time.

the problem isn't in CANBERRA
we don't moan about not being able to move from one suburb to another as a reason for sitting on our asses while our team is in the top 4 playing another top 4 side on a glorious sunday afternoon
as indicated , there wouldn't have been a spare seat down here
The problem is in Sydney , its fans are lazy unmotivated & entitled

as for who goes
the Tigers & Dragons don't get touched , they've already altered their identities to survive & the betterment of the game.

option one
West , Penrith & Parramatta together
South , the Sharks join the Dragons & Steelers
East , Souths & the Roosters together
North , Manly to the CC
The Bulldogs don't really go with anyone , maybe they survive as they are .. IDK

& we have 4 new franchise started

option 2 if teams want soft relocations
Roosters to Adelaide
Sharks to Perth
Penrith to Brisbane
Manly to Wellington

regardless
Sydneysiders don't want their teams
I'm sure someone else does

Canberra have not managed to grow their crowds in 35 years, outside the period they were cheating the cap and had a stacked roster, many of the Sydney sides are looking around double of what they were in 1982.

The point is,and yes you are right new stadiums become older stadiums and novelty does wear off.
But remember ANZ where the Eels currently plays ,is not their real home base.Parramatta is.No place like home as crowds at local suburban grounds tend to show.

ANZ will at least be rectangular.A Bulldogs side that this year was a disaster from day one with the salary cap issue(thank you former CEO Raelene C and coach Bobby Dazzler)and watching player after player being shunted off to other clubs. If I was one of their fans I' d be right p*ssed off and .,my desire to watch them play at a mausoleum like ANZ would be for me a turnoff.

Getting a settled team next year and beyond and improved performances, cannot see why their crowds would not improve. They have a huge latent fan base. The Tigers given a decent season will attract crowds at rectangular ANZ/Leichhardt and Parra stadium. Not too sure about Cambo.

Sydney's road system and train services can be improved, the F6 when completed will move a lot of crap off other roads to the city.
The biggest problem I seems the housing density allowed in the inner city and surrounds, strangling traffic.I there was a decent direct rather than having to change rail to Homebush,I might get interested. As it is ,only semis and G/F get me there.

I would agree with reducing Sydney teams, if there was no other sporting opposition at hand. The fumbling brigade would love a NRL club to fold or relocate. They sure took advantage of then Bear's denial.

And you are correct .no one has a real clue ,as to what the technologies of the future will do, and Tv deals may well be a lot less, made up for b other means.

But that does not alter the fact Sydney's population is growing not stagnating, and in 10-20 years time,9 teams may well be easily accommodated with bigger crowds as a result and with better stadiums in the outer suburbs. So it's not a simple case of "entitled Sydneysiders".
The Sydneysiders you describe, are responsible in the main for help securing the large TV deal monies.the same monies used to assist the Canberras, etc

NB The team I do worry about ATM is the Sea Eagles. They need better seating/stands,their crowds of late have been about the lowest I can remember.

That has as much chance of working,as starting up a sunken WW2 Bomber.

I know the heat will come on us because we were the home team and i am normally not one to bag dragons fans because they generally turn up but they were nowhere to be found today, it was weird.

Had they of matched us it would have been 30k.

I was one of the few that were there and I was very surprised how small our numbers were. I guess there was no sense of occasion and they knew a flogging was on horizon.

says the entitled Sydneysider

OK mate we shut down 5 Sydney clubs, watch fans go elsewhere, give other sports a leg up, get a nice kick in the a*se from the Tv companies because of less Sydney clubs and a big drop in revenue, and Canberra starts crying because their $13m grant from the NRL has dropped substantially.

IOW you guys have no trouble sucking in the dollar grants, which is thanks to Sydney clubs providing the bulk of the ratings .

You're not entitled ,just happy to bite the hand that feeds you. That's what living in politician country must do for you.Bludging would be a suitable description.

If Sydney was just starting off in the NRL ,then have a Nth/Sth/East/West franchise.

Unfortunately established tribalism in Sydney would be dead against it.And I know who the beneficiaries would be and it wouldn't be rugby league.Super League spelt it out loud and clear.
