Very Smokey over here today though.
Bush fire has been burning for about a week.
People with breathing issues would probably stay home.

Yeah ..so excuses are
Smoke
Drought
Manly
Canberra is cold
No free tomato soup

I was considering the trip to the Shire today, but as the Sharks are not offering free flowers and bubbly for the missus, forget it.

How awful is Sydney.

When we get 18,000 after three consecutive wooden spoons, and there is the privilege of seeing the likes of South Sydney, Roosters etc play in the form they are in - what excuse is there?

About a million of them judging by this thread.

US has 53 cities with metro populations of over a million, is the richest nation on earth, and most cities have one club to all follow.

It is these small details that people like to overlook when trying to bring up how other countries should learn from the nfl.

if people want to imagine what it would be like to replicate that over here, just imagine the blues and maroons as clubs in a league, and you get a better comparison....and one that shows we could do it just as good as them given the same circumstances.

Tbf I don’t think anyone is suggesting we would ever get nfl size crowds, however maybe by learning about why they can attract massive crowds we can at least get ourselves into a position where 20k crowds are the norm. And sub 10k crowds are reserved for once a season apolcalyptic weather conditions.

At the moment the big clubs are not pulling what is needed and our small clubs are at times dismal. We have the product we just need to learn to sell it!

Also y'all can cry about it as much as you want but the AFL continues to embarrass us. The swans pulling a bigger crowd then 4 NRL games combined on the same weekend (including 1st vs 2nd) is an embarrassment to our game and also makes all of the excuses being made look pathetic.

4 crowds in Sydney btw
I don't think you could get 4 non Sydney crowds in near perfect conditions to tally under 40K … just not possible & imagine if most of those crowds involved hosting top 4 sides
it'd be more like 80K

hahahaha
wow

When has it ever been any different? This forum has essentially no moderation and the majority of posts are either trolling, off topic bickering, general fighting between the usual suspects and just generally shit posts.

The crowd watch thread has been shit up by the same posters for years. You have to wade through pages of garbage to find one post resembling an actual thoughtful post. If you want decent discussion this isn't the place to go.

It's just unfortunate as there really aren't many options as league fans.

There are a million missed promotional opportunities with NRL.
One of the greatest promotional weapons American sporting teams have is their coaches. They are all slick promotors, salesman, they are articulate and charming, they can talk about their game for hours, they understand that their media commitments aren't obligations but opportunities.
Our coaches can barely string two words together they all look rough headed and like they would rather be anywhere else except in front of a camera. They resent most questions.
If the coaches cannot promote what chance the players or anyone else at an NRL club.

Hopefully by now the nrl and clubs have realised that the membership growth isnt translating into crowds and will come up with a seperate strategy for the next 4 years.
I’d include:
Ticket price:
standard across the comp - $15 GA, $25 best seats, $5 kids. $30 family ga $50 family best seats
Anz games - free ga to all nrl full members, free to kids
Allianz games - free to away club ticketed members, free to kids
Suncorp games - free to away club ticketed members

Thursday night and Friday 6pm games subsidised food

20 games a year in NZ, most of warriors games and all non Auckland nz games in 6pm slot. Warriors supported to turn Friday night at mr Smart into the must do sports event in NZ.

Guaranteed dh opener + 3 games in perth, 3 games in adelaide a year

Actually use the scheduling rights they now have to schedule the all Sydney match ups in best slots and nrl control the marketing of them. Sunday afternoon Sydney game of the round type thing.

Try that for next couple of years, if still no improvement then we are fricked!

The perfect storm of pathetic crowds this week in Sydney due to the two bottom teams playing interstate teams at anz, the roosters playing an interstate team, Thursday night football, media’s focus on negative rugby league stories and refs crisis stories. The swans also happen to get their biggest drawing game this week.
And the media of course jump all over it and now the game is in crisis all over again.
The schedule is a massive problem, clubs not promoting or attempting to grow their crowds is a problem and the media are a huge problem, but the sky isn’t falling in!

At least the media crisis merchants might force toddles off his backside?
Tbf Sydney teams shouldn’t have to rely on away fans to break five figures!

Probably not, but the combination of events seemed to ensure it was always the only possibility this week.

We could see this problem coming for past 6 months..

Every game is in nsw this weekend..

Roosters v cowboys never gets over 10 k

Surely the nrl are smart enough to try mitigate these issues..

They need to limit every round to 2 or under disaster crowds ..

You can look at the draw a year out and pick the sub 10k games .. highlight these and fix it

You fix the optics you fix the problem
