Perhaps you chose not to read my post. I merely indicated it's not locked in because the AFL Draw isn't out. Hell, Round 1 hasn't even leaked yet as it normally would a week out from the fixture release.
I agree that it's likely but I think we should cross that bridge when we come to it, it's not going to change the NRL Draw.
Your comment shows how little you are aware of the AFL media cycle; as mentioned previously today was the final day of the AFL Trade Period. The AFL Round 1 'Leak' always occurs following the end of trade period, it's almost like clockwork that as soon as the media starts to move away from the end of the trade period the AFL 'leaks' Round 1 and other marquee fixtures slowly over the space of a week before they announce their draw. The way the AFL keeps themselves in the headlines is so much more effective than the NRL.
Want to look at the Herald Sun & The Age websites and see how much media attention the NRL Fixture release got in Melbourne today?? Or how much SEN (Melbourne Sport's radio) spent talking about it today? Absolutely none! Because they were focused on the end of the AFL Trade Period.
I understand you don't see this as an issue because it's not released yet, but by not having the foresight to predict something that has a 99% chance of happening that will massively negatively impact one of the biggest 'Marquee' matches in a market where fans are actually going to games and has the ability to grow faster than most other clubs in the NRL.
If we look at the first two Storm home games
R2- Sat Night @ 7:30pm Vs. West Tigers (week before the AFL starts)
R3- Thurs Night @ 7:50pm Vs. Cowboys (same night as a predicted massive AFL game in the same precinct)
The Storm have already missed the opportunity to celebrate Billy Slater's 300th at home (because Storm will be forced to play it Round 1), unless he has a 'nagging injury' that will cause him to miss R1 and then play 300 at home.
But with that set up the Storm will probably get 15k to the Tigers game and 12k to the Cowboys game. If they played the Cowboys the week before they could promote it as a Grand Final rematch and use the Suncorp 'Testimonal' match as a way to promote the first home game-- Cowboys with Thurston could draw 20k+ on that same Saturday night-- with the Tigers probably still getting 10-12k on the following Thursday (if they had to use that horrible time) or instead play the game at 5:30pm Saturday (effectively either before or after an MCG Round 1 blockbuster) and get extra supporters who are also going to the AFL.
It's the lack of foresight by the NRL in this expansion market that is disappointing.
